For Republican voters, the numbers are getting worse—and the reaction inside the data room is sharp.

On Tuesday. CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten highlighted what he described as the “complete collapse” Donald Trump has suffered among Republicans on inflation. When Trump was running for president in 2024. Enten said Trump’s net approval rating among Republicans on inflation stood at +68 percentage points. Now, he said, it has sunk to -5 points.

Enten framed it as a massive reversal: a gigantic 73-point swing, moving from strongly positive to strongly negative. “Look at this! Look at this! Collapse!” he said on Tuesday’s broadcast of “News Central.”

He pushed the emphasis further by insisting the change was not happening in the electorate overall. “And this is not voters overall, let me remind you,” Enten said. “This is Republican voters. That call absolutely coming from inside the house.” In his telling. the shift is coming from within Trump’s own party—on a key issue of inflation.

Enten said that on inflation, multiple polls show Donald John Trump is “underwater within his own Republican Party.”

The drop on economic pressure points hasn’t stopped there. Enten said the president is faring almost as badly with his own party on the issue of fuel and gas prices, which have spiraled in recent weeks. He tied part of that strain to his Iran war.

On gas prices, Enten said Trump’s net approval among Republicans currently sits at -4 points. He added that this is down 55 points from June 2025, when it stood at +51.

“This is a huge shift,” Enten said.

Taken together, the figures portray a party that used to be aligned with Trump on how it felt about inflation and now isn’t. The change is not subtle: it is the kind of swing that makes an issue feel like it has shifted under voters’ feet—right where political loyalty is supposed to hold.

  1. I don’t trust these “net approval” numbers. Like how do they even measure “Republican voters on inflation” that sounds made up. Also gas prices are up because of Iran? sure, but also weather, taxes, all that stuff.

  2. Wait, he went from +68 to -5? That’s like… overnight vibes?? I swear it’s always a collapse right after elections and then they blame it on the other side. Not saying he’s innocent but “coming from inside the house” is just politics talk.

  3. CNN data analyst says Republicans turned on him for inflation and gas. But couldn’t it be that unemployment benefits or something are messing with people? Idk, every article I see is “sharp reaction in the data room” like they’re watching stock charts. Also Iran war—so if Iran doesn’t do anything tomorrow, gas prices should drop tomorrow right? lol
