Elijah Bieniemy’s court hearings have been delayed pending a mental health evaluation.
Bieniemy was scheduled to appear in Loudoun Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court for a motion hearing at 8:32 a.m. ET on Thursday, July 30. Shortly after the hearing was scheduled to begin, online court records indicated that the July 30 motion hearing and an Aug. 31 preliminary hearing have been continued due to a “mental evaluation pending.”
Elijah Bieniemy, the son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was arrested July 27 on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling following the alleged shooting of his mother, Mia.
The 27-year-old was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.
Investigators have not named a motive in the shooting.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed during a July 29 press conference that Mia Bieniemy is no longer in the intensive care unit as she continues her recovery.
“She’s doing great, better than she was,” Reid said.
“Making progress,” he added. “So we’re happy about that.”
