Dutton Ranch ends Season 1 as revenge returns

Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler head into the final stretch of Season 1 of “Dutton Ranch,” relocating to Rio Paloma, buying the Edwards Ranch, losing people along the way, and setting up a revenge arc that escalates near the end of the season.

By the time Episode 7 arrives, there’s a body buried on the Dutton Ranch and a reckoning already in motion.

“Dutton Ranch. ” the Paramount+ series that follows Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in the fictional South Texas town of Rio Paloma. is in its home stretch. The nine-episode first season premiered in mid-May and is scheduled to wrap the season in early July. The show filmed all around North Texas. with the final stretch building toward events that leave the couple’s new life far from settled.

The story starts with a jolt that forces them south: Beth and Rip lose their Montana ranch in a fire. With nowhere left to go. they head to Rio Paloma and purchase the Edwards Ranch. a property known for its strong herd. Beth and Rip rename the ranch in honor of her father. John Dutton—an act that looks like a fresh start. until the past and the town’s rivalries start closing in.

In Rio Paloma, Beth meets Beulah Jackson, played by Annette Bening, who owns the rival 10-Petal Ranch. She also crosses paths with Everett McKinney, portrayed by Ed Harris, a weathered veteran and veterinarian. Their early meeting doesn’t go well. and Beth soon leans on Everett for help with a practical problem that grows into a bigger crisis: figuring out how to process their herd.

On the Dutton Ranch, Rip is running day-to-day work with two ranch hands—Azul (J.R. Villarreal), a loyal compadre, and Zachariah (Marc Menchaca), an introspective cowboy who just got out of prison. For a few episodes. the trio focuses on the herd until they face a sudden disaster: they have to terminate the lot after an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.

Even as the ranch’s labor and livestock are under pressure. Carter—Beth and Rip’s adopted son. played by Finn Little—tries to carve out his own path. He gives high school a go and finds it “less than stellar.” He then ditches school and finds work with Dwight (Ray McKinnon). a rancher who spends more time slinging back beers than anything else. Their uneasy arrangement ends hard: Dwight dies in Episode 5 after being killed by Rio Paloma police.

Carter is left reeling. He finds solace with Beulah’s granddaughter, Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind). The two meet after Carter gets into a fight with Oreana’s boyfriend. Berto Colón plays an employee of the 10-Petal Ranch who acts as a babysitter and bodyguard for Oreana. adding to the sense that the town’s rival lines run through everyday life as much as ranch work.

Episode 5 also changes power dynamics on the ranch. Rip and Beth both decide to work for Beulah and the 10-Petal. Rip takes over as foreman, and Beth works on the business side of things. Beulah’s son, Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba), isn’t pleased with how that shift plays out. Rip then brings Azul and Zachariah over to the 10-Petal. and they all work together with the ranch’s hands to work cattle.

Near the end of the season. the show has one more unresolved thread hanging over everything: a death tied to the 10-Petal. Rip finds a body on the Dutton Ranch in Episode 1. The deceased used to work at the 10-Petal and was killed by Beulah’s son and former foreman. Rob-Will (Jai Courtney). Rob-Will is sent to rehab but returns with a vengeance in the last couple of episodes.

Heading into Episode 7—out Friday, June 19—the tension looks poised to snap. Beth, meanwhile, is last seen taking a trip to Chicago with Beulah to talk beef with a restaurant executive.

The series doesn’t just suggest conflict—it keeps forcing choices. Each shift in who’s working where, each disruption to ranch life, and each return of someone from the past makes the season’s final movement feel less like closure and more like payback catching up.

For viewers who want to catch up, Paramount+ is the main hub for “Dutton Ranch,” and the Paramount Network airs it mainly for new episodes.

  1. I saw the headline “revenge returns” and thought it was already over lol. If they’re filming in North Texas wouldn’t they keep the story there too? Also Rip is doing ranch stuff like nothing is happening.

  2. Wait is this the one with Beth Dutton and Rip from Yellowstone? Cuz I’m confused, it says they lose their Montana ranch in a fire but then they buy some Edwards Ranch and rename it for John?? Like John comes back or what? And Beulah Jackson is the villain right? I can’t tell, the summary makes it sound like she’s just there to help with the herd or something.

  3. Episode 7 has a body buried and “reckoning already in motion” like okay cool but why do these shows always move ranches like it’s Monopoly. Also Ed Harris as a vet? That feels random. I kinda hope the prison guy (Zachariah) isn’t gonna be innocent for like 2 seconds, cuz this plot is already kinda chaotic.
