Ducks’ Terry needs hip surgery, casting doubt ahead

Anaheim Ducks forward Troy Terry requires hip surgery for a chronic impingement, with no set date or recovery timeline yet. The team also disclosed injuries including Cutter Gauthier’s fractured vertebrae, Radko Gudas’ ankle sprain, Ryan Poehling’s concussion

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The season ended for the Anaheim Ducks last week with a six-game loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round, but the injuries are the story the team is carrying into the offseason.

Anaheim revealed Thursday in its post-season injury report that forward Troy Terry needs hip surgery. and the procedure could endanger his availability at the start of next season. Terry’s issue is a chronic hip impingement. and the Ducks have not finalized a surgery date or a definite timeframe for how long recovery will take.

The uncertainty lands hard because Terry has been the Ducks’ steadiest offensive force for the past half-decade. He has scored at least 19 goals and 50 points each year, including 57 points last season. In the postseason, Terry added three goals and eight assists in 12 playoff games—his first time playing in playoff contests.

Anaheim’s injury report also confirmed that goal-scoring forward Cutter Gauthier played through two fractured vertebrae in his back during the postseason. Gauthier was hurt in late March, missed five games, returned, and still managed to contribute in the playoffs with 12 points.

Captain Radko Gudas sprained his ankle in the Ducks’ playoff opener and did not return to the lineup. His absence mattered in the simplest way possible: he would have been available if Anaheim had advanced to another round. Forward Ryan Poehling was also kept out after incurring a concussion from an illegal hit by Vegas defenseman Brayden McNabb. who was suspended for a game. Poehling has since been cleared.

Defenceman Pavel Mintyukov sprained a ligament in his knee, but the Ducks said he will be ready for training camp.

Taken together. Anaheim’s disclosures paint a clear picture of what the organization will be trying to solve before it thinks about next season: Terry’s hip surgery looms without a timeline. Gauthier’s fractures show how much the Ducks asked of their forward group despite setbacks. and the postseason injuries that sidelined key pieces either linger or are already being worked around. The one bright spot on the report is Mintyukov’s expectation to be available at training camp.

  1. Hip surgery?? That’s gonna be brutal for opening night next season if they’re vague like that.

  2. Wait so he needs surgery but there’s no date? How do you just… not know?? I feel like Terry being gone would mess up literally everything.

  3. So the illegal hit by that McNabb guy led to Poehling’s concussion, right? But he’s cleared now so it’s fine… unless Terry’s hip surgery is actually from the same thing?? Idk, these reports get mixed up.

  4. I swear Ducks always have injuries like it’s part of their strategy. Gauthier fractured vertebrae and he still played?? That’s either tough or dumb. Also if Gudas would’ve been available then they would’ve won the next round… okay sure but Vegas was stacked anyway. Just sucks for Terry timing though, no recovery timeline is scary.
