Disney’s Monsters, Inc. land takes shape at Hollywood Studios

Monstropolis takes – Construction on Disney World’s first Monsters, Inc. land at Hollywood Studios is underway, turning the former Muppets Courtyard into Monstropolis with dining, a factory attraction, and a suspended roller coaster planned for Disney parks.
By late May, the signs of what used to sit at Disney’s Hollywood Studios were almost gone.
At a hard hat visit to the construction site, visitors saw the former Muppets Courtyard reduced to concrete and metal bones. Crews are using that shell to build a new cityscape: Monstropolis.
Disney Imagineers say they’re working closely with Pixar to bring the Monsters, Inc. world to life through attractions, dining, and locations rooted in the franchise. The focus is on familiar places. reimagined for a theme park setting—starting with Harryhausen’s restaurant. where guests can dine like Mike Wazowski and his girlfriend Celia Mae before Boo escaped and chaos followed.
Guests will also be able to visit the Monsters, Inc. factory. The company’s plans call for Disney’s first suspended roller coaster at any of its parks to be housed there.
Disney rolled out details for new lands and attractions for its global theme parks at its 2024 D23 fan event. Along with Monsters, Inc., Disney said it’s also developing villains-themed areas as part of that broader expansion.
When the Monstropolis land was first announced in 2024. Josh D’Amaro—then Disney Experiences chairman. now Disney CEO—said Disney would lean into technology to make the experience as immersive as possible. He told the outlet in that earlier announcement: “And of course. we’ll use all the latest technology. all the latest tricks. the most immersive environment you can imagine to create an experience that I think our fans are going to love.”.
Disney also said there will be plenty of elements guests may not immediately recognize. because only snippets of Monstropolis have appeared on screen. Imagineers are expanding the fictional city with new sights such as the Glob Theater. described as a completely new attraction in the former Muppet*Vision 3D venue. along with various storefronts.
As Disney starts building out the city, it’s also drafting a storyline for guests to step into. Guests will be invited as part of Monstropolis’ first H.U.M.A.N. Day—short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice.” The Disney Parks Blog said on June 4 that the day’s premise follows the timeline after the events of the first film. when monsters have learned that laughter is stronger than fear. but still have a lot to learn from humans. and humans have a lot to learn from monsters. A Department of Human Relations will be on hand to help.
