Deion Sanders secures Samari Howard for Colorado 2027

On a weekend trip that started in Fort Lauderdale and ended in Boulder, Colorado got a decisive recruiting moment Sunday: three-star safety Samari Howard committed to the Buffaloes after an official visit to the program.

Howard chose Colorado over Indiana and West Virginia after concluding his weekend visit. His decision was reported as coming through Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.

Howard is ranked as the No. 708 overall prospect in the 2027 Rivals Industry Ranking. He is also listed as the No. 75 safety nationally and the No. 69 recruit in the state of Florida, based on the same ranking system.

The commitment didn’t happen in isolation. It capped a busy recruiting window for head coach Deion Sanders and Colorado, with five class of 2027 prospects announcing pledges after official visits to campus during the same timeframe.

On Saturday, offensive linemen Jaiden Lindsay (Olney, Maryland) and Zaquan Linton (West Palm Beach, Florida), along with linebacker Jovon Pulliam (Hoover, Alabama), committed to Colorado. Then on Sunday, running back Steven Alexis (St. Petersburg, Florida) joined the class—along with Howard.

With Howard’s addition, Colorado’s 2027 recruiting class reached 14 commitments. The group now stretches across nine states, with four players from Florida. Howard also became the fourth Florida prospect to commit to Colorado in the current cycle.

The pattern of the weekend is clear in the numbers and locations alone: Colorado kept stacking commitments across multiple positions and states, and Sunday’s pledge ensured Florida remained central to Sanders’ recruiting push.

  1. Wait I thought Colorado was losing recruits, but now they’re getting safeties from Florida?? Seems like they’re just grabbing whoever goes on an unofficial visit. Also what’s with “No. 708 overall” like is that even good?

  2. Rivals ranking says No. 75 safety and No. 69 in Florida, but then it says No. 708 overall prospect… so which one matters? I’m confused. Either way Deion winning, Indiana and West Virginia probably didn’t want him that bad.

  3. Fort Lauderdale to Boulder in one weekend and he commits, that’s wild. I feel like the recruiting sites always mess up the numbers though like the article says “added ano On a weekend trip” which makes me think the info is off. Still cool for Colorado, but why is it always Florida??
