For U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean, the latest revelations about Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner weren’t just another day of political noise. In a Friday interview, she called the expanding allegations “distressing” and said Platner has “disqualified” himself in her eyes.

Dean was asked by Boris Sanchez on CNN whether she supported Platner’s run for Senate. She responded that she’s not a voter in Maine. but that the pace and content of the accusations have pushed her to a clear conclusion. “I think it’s so distressing all of the stories that are coming out. and they’re more and more it seems by the hour. ” Dean said. “He has disqualified himself in my eyes. He is not qualified to be a representative, a senator. We’ll see what Maine does about it. and I know Governor [Janet] Mills remains on the ballot. but he has disqualified himself.”.

Dean’s remarks landed as Platner faced a series of bombshell reports that have continued to pile up. Last week. The Wall Street Journal reported that Platner’s wife said she caught him sexting other women early in their marriage. In a statement sent to the Journal. Platner’s wife said the couple went to counseling to work through the ordeal.

Days later, The New York Times published additional allegations from ex-girlfriends of Platner, who accused him of abusive behavior. One ex also claimed Platner made unusual comments, including threatening to “rape” anyone who broke into their home.

The sequence of allegations has now moved from one outlet’s report to another. with Dean describing the overall picture as escalating rather than settling. She pointed to Maine’s next decision—while also underscoring that Governor Janet Mills remains on the ballot—framing her view of Platner’s candidacy in stark terms as more details emerge.

  1. I don’t even know who this guy is but sexting allegations during a marriage is just… come on. And then ex-girlfriends saying abusive stuff?? That should automatically kill the campaign in my opinion.

  2. Dean said he “disqualified himself” which sounds like she’s acting like the judge/jury lol. Also if Janet Mills is on the ballot then why are we even talking about this guy still? Feels like the media just drags it out hour by hour.

  3. Wait, I thought this was about Maine voting for a senator, but now it’s like “Governor Mills remains on the ballot” so are they mixing races? And the “threatening to rape” quote… like who even says that, unless they meant something else? Not defending him or anything, just saying the whole timeline is confusing and I’m sure people are missing parts.
