Dean Cain’s “shallow and cruel” dunking on Supergirl

On Sunday, Dean Cain didn’t just scroll past the new poster for the upcoming Supergirl movie—he stepped into the replies and kept going.

The former Superman, who played the last son of Krypton on TV in the 90s and whose most recent role was cosplaying as an ICE agent, joined a gang of internet trolls to complain about the image. Cain started by boosting a question about how Supergirl could pierce her ears if her skin is bulletproof.

Then he co-signed mockery of Supergirl star Milly Alcock’s appearance. In one reply. Cain responded to an image of a furry proto-human from the 1970s series Land of the Lost that an X user shared while asking why Alcock resembled the ape-like character. Cain wrote, “Dang it… I laughed” along with a nervous emoji.

The laughter didn’t land that way. Over 400 X users piled on the actor in the comments. calling him “shallow and cruel” and likening him to a “Temu Superman.” One person wrote. “What a nasty ******* bully you’ve turned out to be. ” adding: “A **** near 60 year old loser dunking on a girl old enough to be your own kid.”.

Cain is 59, while Alcock is 26.

Some of the backlash has focused on how the exchange feeds into a larger cultural fight around the film. The article points out that Supergirl has faced conservative backlash. in part because the movie is female-led and Alcock has been outspoken about sexism in Hollywood. It also notes that Alcock sparked a minor controversy last month in a Variety interview. where she said it was “hilarious” that most of the online hate she receives comes from “burner accounts” or pages with bios like. “Dad of four. Christian.”.

“If you’re pissing the right kind of people off, you’re doing OK,” she said in that interview.

The result is a poster debate that quickly became something harsher: not just disagreement about a character, but a public dunk that drew enough outrage to drown the joke underneath it.

  1. The whole bulletproof skin thing is dumb anyway. Like if it’s DC they can do whatever. Still, dunking on a young actress for how she looks is cringe.

  2. Wait I thought Supergirl was bulletproof? So he was like “how she pierce her ears”?? idk sounds like he didn’t even watch the show, he just saw a headline and ran his mouth. Also comparing her to that Land of the Lost thing?? That seems like mean-gossip energy.

  3. Temu Superman?? come on 😂 But for real, everyone talking about sexism and burner accounts and whatever… makes me think this is just another movie politics circus. Dean Cain probably got baited by some troll first, and then he kept typing. But the girl is 26 and he’s almost 60 so yeah that’s not a good look either way.
