Daryl Hall says kidney transplant is already helping

Daryl Hall revealed he underwent a kidney transplant “a couple of weeks” before a June 23 post, saying doctors called the procedure a complete success and that he expects to return to normal in a few months. The musician, who has long discussed Lyme disease, a

Daryl Hall didn’t wait for the next album cycle to talk about his health. In a June 23 social media post, the former Hall & Oates frontman wrote that he recently underwent a kidney transplant and is already starting to feel better.

“It happened a couple of weeks ago, and I’m already starting to feel better,” Hall wrote. “It was, according to my doctors, a complete success!”

Hall, 79, said he “should be back to normal in a few months” and plans to return to the stage for “more music and lots of Daryl’s House shows.” He credited what he called “a very kind and generous living donor” for making the transplant possible.

The update lands against a backdrop of earlier health struggles that Hall has talked about publicly. He previously shared that Lyme disease—described by medical sources as a tick-borne bacterial infection—has had an on-and-off effect on him. including symptoms that can extend for more than a year. Hall has said he lives with “good days and bad days. ” describing periods when symptoms ease and then return with tremors. headaches. fatigue. and other effects.

In 2005. Hall’s illness forced him to postpone 16 Hall & Oates tour dates in the summer of that year. according to Billboard. Hall said he was infected in the 2000s and diagnosed in 2006. and he later told Seacoast Online. part of the USA TODAY Network. that Lyme symptoms can come and go. Harvard Medical School has described persistent side effects that can include muscle aches. fatigue. joint pain and stiffness. headaches. and difficulty concentrating.

Hall has characterized the fight with the disease as ongoing and severe at times. He said Lyme is like “a roving street gang of germs. ” adding that “there’s no cure. but you can control it.” He also said it can manifest in many ways and can lead to heart disease and depression. and that it can become so serious that people have died.

That long history gives extra weight to the surgeon’s green light in his latest update: doctors said the transplant was a “complete success. ” and Hall is already tracking improvement week by week. The story has moved from managing symptoms to rebuilding health—while still pointing toward the same horizon he’s kept for years: music. touring. and returning to his show.

Hall’s path to fame began decades ago when he met John Oates in Philadelphia in the late 1960s. The duo went on to produce eight platinum-selling albums. each representing sales of 1 million or more. and another six certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. Their biggest hits include “Rich Girl,” “She’s Gone,” “Private Eyes,” “Sara Smile,” “Maneater,” and “I Can’t Go For That.”.

Considered one of rock’s most successful partnerships, Hall & Oates were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. Their “Kiss On My List” video was played on MTV’s first day of broadcast. Hall and Oates last performed together in 2023, Rolling Stone reported. In November 2024. Hall filed a lawsuit against Oates after Oates attempted to sell his share of their joint venture; the two settled in August 2025. Rolling Stone reported.

Outside the duo, Hall began his show Live from Daryl’s House in November 2007. The series was first made available online, later broadcast on MTV Live, and now all episodes are available on Hall’s YouTube channel.

For now. Hall is pointing to a recovery window measured in months rather than years. while leaving space for the reality he has spoken about before: health can swing. After a transplant described as a complete success. he says he expects to be back to normal in a few months—and he’s already looking past the hospital to “more music and lots of Daryl’s House shows.”.

  1. Wait so was the Lyme disease why he needed a transplant?? I thought Lyme just messes with nerves and stuff. either way hope he’s okay.

  2. A couple weeks ago and he’s “already starting to feel better”?? That’s kinda fast, not gonna lie. Also Lyme can cause fatigue and headaches forever so I’m confused how the transplant fixes that part. but I’m happy he’s doing better, he’s like my dad’s favorite singer.

  3. Man, good on him for being open about it. Living donor is awesome, but I always hear transplant stories and then people are like “back to normal in months” like it’s a light switch. Lyme disease on and off… now kidney transplant… sounds like one of those health situations where the bad days are still gonna show up. Hope he gets to do the shows though, Daryl’s House has been the only thing on TV I kinda trust.
