Criterion producer. said in a press statement. “’The Complete Kubrick’ took two years to achieve. but as Kubrick fans know. one’s relationship with his films never truly ends.” He added that it was “an honor to be asked to produce this set and an enormous responsibility. ” naming the fans. the Kubrick estate. and “ultimately to Kubrick himself. ” whose commitment to how his work was presented “remained constant throughout his life.”.
Criterion says it consulted Kubrick’s closest collaborators. archival experts. and the studios that have stewarded his films across generations—aiming to ensure the movies “look and sound better than they ever have on home video.” Chaiken also pointed to the set’s interviews and documentaries. describing “behind Kubrick’s darkly comic vision” a “world of family. friends. and enduring creative relationships that speak to the humanist center of this singular body of work.”.
All 13 films and three shorts are restored in 4K. paired with Kubrick’s original soundtracks alongside the 5.1 mixes. restored and remastered. The package is built like a box of artifacts: it includes 25 hours of interviews. documentaries. and behind-the-scenes materials. deluxe packaging featuring rare photographs and new illustrations. and artwork and documents annotated by Kubrick himself. In total, the set includes 30 discs on 4K UHD and Blu-ray. The box design, Criterion says, also takes cues from Kubrick’s own meticulous physical archives.
