A hot-water spill is the kind of accident that can happen in a split second. For one ZWILLING electric kettle owner, it reportedly did — ending in a second-degree burn — and now the product is being pulled from shelves after reports that the handle can loosen or separate.
The recall was announced May 14 by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). It involves ZWILLING J. A. Henckels Aktiengesellschaft Enfinigy Kettle and Enfinigy Kettle Pro electric stainless-steel kettles after concerns that faulty handles can detach and spill hot water. creating a serious burn hazard.
In the United States, 113,440 kettles are included in the recall, according to the CPSC report. In Canada, 43,963 units were sold, and in Mexico, 48 were sold.
The company received 163 reports of kettle handles loosening or separating. Of those, five incidents involved handle separation, and one incident included a reported second-degree burn.
The affected kettles can be identified by model numbers. For the 1.5L ENFINIGY Electric Kettle, the models are 53101-200 and 53101-201. For the 1.5L ENFINIGY Electric Kettle Pro, the models are 53101-500, 53101-501, 53101-502, 53101-503, and 53101-504.
CPSC says the model numbers and the “ZWILLING” branding can be found on the bottom of the kettle and the power base.
The stainless-steel kettles came in multiple colors. including black. silver. rose gold. and white. and ZWILLING branding appears on the kettle itself. The kettles were sold at Costco and HomeGoods stores nationwide and online at zwilling.com from December 2019 through February 2026 for between $120 and $200.
Customers are being urged to stop using the kettles immediately and to contact the brand for a full refund. The CPSC also says consumers in the U.S. should visit the brand’s website for disposal instructions before getting rid of the product — including unplugging the kettle. cutting the cord. and uploading a photo.
A representative for Costco did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Why are people still buying those fancy kettles anyway. Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
I saw this on TikTok like a week ago?? Handle just falling off is crazy. If it’s sold at Costco, you’d think it’d be checked more.
So wait the recall is cuz the handle “loosens” but they’re saying second-degree burns… like did it explode or something? Also is it only the Pro one or all of them? My cousin has one that looks similar but not sure the model number.
This is why I don’t trust electric kettles, same thing happened to my cousin’s coffee maker (different company I know) and then they acted like it was user error. If it can detach and spill hot water that fast, how is that even safe. People will keep using it till someone gets really burned.
