New York Sunday brought a familiar kind of dominance to the NHL—this time wrapped in an award voted by the people McDavid goes to battle with every night.
Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers won the Ted Lindsay Award as the league’s most outstanding player. the NHL and the Players’ Association announced Sunday. It was the fifth time McDavid has captured the honor. tying Wayne Gretzky for the most wins in league history for a trophy that used to be named for Lester B. Pearson.
“This award, coming from the guys that you play against every single night and battle against every single night, to have them recognize me with an award like this, means so much,” the 29-year-old center said.
The numbers behind the recognition were just as loud as the symbolism. McDavid led all scorers this past season with 90 assists and 138 points.
In the voting, San Jose’s Macklin Celebrini finished second, and Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov came in third.
McDavid’s night also carries momentum beyond the Lindsay Award. He is a Hart Trophy finalist for league MVP along with Kucherov and Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon. McDavid is also a three-time Hart winner.
The arc here is hard to miss: the same season that produced a league-leading offensive output also delivered a peer-voted endorsement that matches the record once held by the sport’s most legendary name.

So Gretzky got tied AGAIN? Like that’s even a thing still??
I don’t even follow hockey like that but 5th time is insane. If it’s voted by players, doesn’t that mean they’re just scared to vote against him lol.
Wait I thought the Ted Lindsay Award was the one for MVP but they’re also talking about the Hart Trophy like they’re different awards? Also how does San Jose get second when McDavid is the whole story.
90 assists and 138 points??? That sounds made up, like video game stats. Meanwhile my team can’t even win a power play. Congrats to him though I guess, but I’m still mad about the NHL being rigged for stars or whatever.
