When Chelsea Gray’s release found nothing but net. it didn’t just quiet the Portland Fire—it stamped the moment with history. In a 105-89 win on Thursday. the Las Vegas Aces guard delivered a barrage from beyond the arc. sinking nine three-pointers to tie the WNBA single-game record for most made shots from distance.
Gray, 33, had already been a problem this season for the Atlanta Dream with a game-winning fadeaway jumper with 3.6 seconds remaining. Against Portland, she added another highlight to her growing list of late-game killers and record-setters.
She finished with 29 points on 67% shooting from the field. five rebounds. and three assists—while also making it her seventh career game with five or more made three-pointers. Nine makes from deep were enough to place her alongside the WNBA’s elite names who have owned similar nights from long range: Rhyne Howard (twice). Arike Ogunbowale. Jewell Loyd. and Kelsey Mitchell.
“It was great. I had a couple of games there where I was like, ‘OK, like, I’m making them in practice,’ but, you know, just trusting the work,” Gray said postgame. “I hit a couple early, and it just felt good.”
The performance didn’t land in isolation. Aces star A’ja Wilson also wrote her own chapter of the night, finishing with 32 points on 50% shooting, along with five rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.
That outing marked Wilson’s 40th career game with 30 points or more, and it helped push her to No. 16 on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list. She entered Thursday with 6,004 career points and finished with 6,036, passing Seimone Augustus (6,005), Lauren Jackson (6,007), and Brittney Griner (6,031). Wilson’s teammate, Loyd, is next on the list at No. 15 with 6,090 points.
Wilson also moved on the rebounding ledger. She needed two rebounds to pass Sancho Lyttle (2,601) and ended Thursday with 2,605 rebounds, placing her at spot No. 14 on the league’s all-time rebounding list for now.
On a night when both Gray and Wilson were stacking milestones, the Aces’ chemistry was impossible to ignore. Wilson described the connection with Gray as something built over time—trust and friendship that lets them keep their focus on the next possession, not the spotlight.
“I think our trust. Our trust is something that we have been brewing together forever,” Wilson said. “I think we also have a great friendship that we don’t take anything personal. We’re like, ‘What’s your goals? How you wanna get there?’ and it’s reciprocated.”
