Ron Harper Jr. is reportedly back with the franchise on a three-year, $9 million contract. Boston also declined Harper’s $2.6 million team option for the 2026-27 season as part of the reworked deal.
Harper’s name has been tied to growth all postseason. but the jump was clearest during the stretch drive of the regular season. He appeared in 26 games for the Celtics and averaged 4.0 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11 minutes per game. His efficiency stood out on a bench that could swing momentum in short bursts: Harper shot 41.8 percent from the field and hit 35.0 percent of his 3-point attempts.
As the 2025-26 season went on, his role expanded. In Boston’s regular-season finale against the Orlando Magic, he scored 27 points. Later, after earning a bigger look, Harper made a surprise start in Game 7 of the Celtics’ first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The contract decision lands as Brad Stevens weighs roster changes for the upcoming season. The Celtics aren’t only trying to figure out how to balance their backcourt; they also face a bigger set of moving parts, including the question of what to do with Jaylen Brown amid numerous trade rumors.
Even with Harper locked in, Boston still has other options to consider for its roster group. The Celtics also need to make calls on team options for Neemias Queta, Jordan Walsh, Dalano Banton, Max Shulga, and Amari Williams as they plan their next step.
