By the time Washington, D.C. turns its attention to Freedom 250 this summer, the U.S. Mint will have already shipped a piece of the anniversary to collectors’ doorsteps.
An uncirculated set of America 250 coins—meant to mark the nation’s 250th birthday—will be released on June 30. just days before July 4. The set includes the quarter, dime, nickel and penny, along with signature coins carrying unique elements tied to the milestone. While the coins are valid U.S. currency, they are primarily sold as collectors’ items rather than for everyday change.
The Mint says the uncirculated coins are made differently from those typically found in wallets. They are hand-loaded into the coin press and struck on specially burnished blanks to create a soft, matte-like appearance. The result is a more modest look compared with the bright luster on coins used for everyday transactions.
For 2026, the Mint’s standard annual uncirculated offering comes with a twist: it includes coins commemorating America’s semiquincentennial. The set features all five semiquincentennial quarters issued by the Mint to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Those quarters, according to the U.S. Mint, pay tribute to five foundational milestones in U.S. history: the Mayflower Compact, the Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address. The events are reflected in the symbols and figures printed on both sides of the coins.
Collectors looking ahead will also find a rare “first” in the smaller denominations. The set’s Emerging Liberty dime will show Liberty on the obverse for the first time since 1945. The Enduring Liberty half dollar will include a new design depicting the Statue of Liberty instead of the typical portrayal of President John F. Kennedy and the Presidential Coat of Arms.
The American 250 Native American dollar coin carries its own set of story elements. Its obverse depicts Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean-Baptiste, while the reverse shows the Oneida tribe during the Revolutionary War.
The Jefferson nickel and Lincoln penny complete the set with a shared time marker: both feature the years “1776 to 2026.”
The set itself comes packaged as two cards, each holding 10 uncirculated coins—one card minted at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia and the other minted at the U.S. Mint in Denver. Each set includes a certificate of authenticity. The coins are available from the U.S. Mint on June 30 at 12 p.m. EDT, priced at $124.50 for both coin cards.
