The first question fans started asking online wasn’t about the fighters—it was about the screen. On Sunday, June 14, UFC Freedom 250 is scheduled to take place at the White House, but Dana White says CBS won’t carry the event live.
White told reporters that viewers will need Paramount+ instead. Paramount+ requires a subscription with a minimum monthly charge of $8.99.
White gave a blunt reason for CBS’s absence: the broadcast plan is built around telling “America’s story” during the show. stretching from the earliest fight to modern matchups. “No, because there’s only X number of fights and it starts from the first one,” White said. “We start at the beginning of time and like the Mexican Independence Day fight that we did. we’re going to tell the story of America from the first fight to the last. So no, they’ll all be on Paramount+.”.
That distinction matters in a sport where access has become part of the business model. Paramount+ replaced ESPN as the UFC’s streaming partner this year after agreeing to pay the UFC $7.7 billion over seven years for the right. Paramount has about 80 million subscribers, and the company is expecting that number to grow through its UFC partnership.
CBS—owned by Paramount—has aired portions of UFC cards earlier this year. Those broadcasts, however, focused on leadup fights to the main card, meaning the free television window didn’t extend to the UFC’s marquee, numbered events.
UFC’s deal with Paramount also carried another key promise: the end of pay-per-view fees ESPN charged to watch the numbered events. In other words, numbered UFC fights moved toward a subscription-centered world, not a one-off payment model.
The White House show itself has been marketed as UFC Freedom 250, tied to the country’s 250th birthday. It will feature seven fights—about half as many as are typically on a UFC card.
The sequence of decisions is hard to miss. CBS has shown UFC content earlier this year, but the main, numbered draw is being kept behind the Paramount+ subscription. For viewers. the question now isn’t whether the fight exists—it’s whether they’re willing to pay to see it unfold on the biggest stage.
