Category 1 Hyatts let travelers spend far fewer points

A recently updated Hyatt award chart makes Category 1 World of Hyatt stays feel like a sweet spot—starting at 3,000 points. From U.S. Hyatt Place and Hyatt Regency properties to hotels in Mexico, Europe, Indonesia, and Qatar, travelers can also choose optional
The first thing many points travelers do is open the map and hunt for value. For Hyatt loyalists chasing the lowest redemption levels, that hunt has a clearer answer now: Category 1 World of Hyatt hotels start as low as 3,000 points for a standard room.
The pricing is laid out across Hyatt’s updated award chart. with Lowest nights listed at 3. 000 points. Low nights at 4. 500 points. Moderate nights at 6. 000 points. Upper nights at 7. 500 points. and Top nights at 9. 000 points. For travelers who love sleeping well on points but hate paying “higher-category” prices, Category 1 has become a practical escape hatch.
That same chart also opens the door to upgrades that can be worth it depending on how you travel. Club lounge access can be booked for 5. 000 to 11. 000 points per night. while a standard suite is priced at 6. 000 to 12. 000 points per night. A premium suite, where the property offers that room type, can run 8,000 to 14,000 points per night.
But not every Category 1 stay is points-only. Some properties offer inexpensive paid rates, which changes the math for travelers deciding whether to redeem Hyatt points or book cash.
The list of value doesn’t have to stay limited to the U.S., either. Still, the article notes that only two U.S. hotels are included, because many of the best Category 1 options are abroad. That doesn’t mean road trippers and airport-hoppers miss out—Category 1 can be a solid way to stay near an airport or keep the driving simple.

3,000 points sounds fake good.
So wait, they lowered it? Or is this just for like the cheapest rooms only. I feel like they’ll raise it again next quarter. Also Mexico and Europe for 3k is wild.
I don’t get why they’re talking about Qatar like that’s nearby… but sure, “escape hatch” for points. Do people really book lounge access for 5,000 or is that just marketing fluff? Maybe 3,000 points is only for off-season when nobody wants the hotel.
Hyatt doing the chart thing again… next they’ll make it so Category 1 is only 3,000 when it’s already sold out. I saw “lowest nights” at 3,000 but then there’s 4,500/6,000/7,500/9,000 so it’s kinda confusing like it depends what mood the computer is in. Still, I might try to game it and book the lowest night, even though I’ll probably end up paying cash anyway.
