Wednesday in Windsor-Essex will feel different by midmorning—fewer doors open, more phone lines go quiet, and many municipal and government buildings shut their lights for the 159th anniversary of Confederation.

All Windsor-Essex municipal buildings will be closed on Canada Day, along with all federal and provincial buildings. Canada Post delivery will also stop for the day, and all Service Ontario branches will be closed. Driver’s licence renewals are one exception: certain transactions can be completed online.

Parking rules change in a small but noticeable way. Metered parking will be free on Canada Day, but all surface lots and garages will be paid as usual. The City’s parking enforcement offices will be closed on Wednesday, though payments may still be made online.

Museum and streetscape access is also limited. The Chimczuk Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the Maison Francois Baby House will be closed. The Streetcar No. 351 at the Legacy Beacon will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Transit Windsor buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Canada Day. Shopping hours vary by mall and location. Devonshire Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Tecumseh Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Certain Beer Store outlets will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  1. My whole 311 plan is ruined then. Also why would garbage be delayed only in certain zones like 2A 2B etc, that’s confusing. I hope they post it right on the calendar.

  2. Wait, the article says the 311 call centre closes but you can still call for sewer backups and stuff. So if my street is flooded I’m supposed to call the city emergency line? Like which one is that number?? They should just put one number.

  3. Canada Day hours are always annoying. Canada Post stopping delivery makes no sense to me, like people still need meds and packages. Also I read 211 stays open 24 hours, but isn’t that for like shelters? Idk, I’m just gonna not take any chances and wait til Thursday for everything lol.
