Caleb Williams becomes first Bears Madden 27 cover star

Caleb Williams will appear on the front of Madden 27, making him the first Bears player to land the main cover. EA Sports unveiled two designs for the Aug. 13 release, and Williams framed it as a childhood dream coming true.

On Wednesday morning, Caleb Williams found out he’d made it to the front of Madden 27. For the Bears quarterback, the moment wasn’t just another sports headline—it landed like a childhood promise finally kept.

EA Sports announced that Williams will be the face of the game’s main edition, the first time a Bears player has appeared on the cover of the video game. The reveal came with two different designs ahead of the game’s Aug. 13 release.

On the standard edition, Williams is pictured throwing a jump pass. The deluxe edition shows him rubbing his biceps—an on-field celebration he used that ties directly to his “Iceman” nickname.

Williams’ selection carries weight for Bears fans because of how he arrived at the spotlight last season. He became the Bears’ quarterback who led them to their first playoff win in 15 years. It wasn’t only the results. but the style—six comeback victories—where his throws seemed to flip games at the latest possible moments.

The images of Williams on the cover also echo specific highlights that defined his season. His heave to tight end Cole Kmet to tie the Rams in the final seconds of a playoff game stood out as one of the most talked-about plays. His game-winning throw against the Packers to DJ Moore was named the league’s Moment of the Year. The jump throw shown on the Madden cover is reminiscent of his playoff pass to receiver Rome Odunze.

In a statement, Williams said learning he was the cover choice felt “like my childhood dream was coming true.” He added that it was a “full-circle moment,” after saying he grew up playing the game.

EA Sports also leaned into what Williams represents on the field. Its vice president of franchise strategy and marketing, Evan Dexter, described him as the Bears’ “electric, generational quarterback.”

The path to the reveal wasn’t quiet. Images of Williams on the cover leaked on social media over the weekend. Then, an EA Sports event scheduled Thursday in Chicago further tipped off his inclusion before the official announcement.

Bears players had never before appeared on the cover of the main Madden edition. The last time a former Bears player appeared on a Madden cover was in 2009. when Roberto Garza was on the Spanish-language cover. More recently. Super Bowl-winning Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was on the cover last year. with Bills quarterback Josh Allen and 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey the two years before.

With the Madden 27 release date set for Aug. 13, Williams’ rise is about to move beyond the field again—into living rooms, into video game versions of the same tense throws, and into a cover that now belongs, for the first time, to the Bears.

  1. The deluxe one with him rubbing his biceps is so random lol. I don’t even play Madden like that but I saw the Iceman thing and yeah it tracks?

  2. He’s first Bears player… so like does that mean Madden 26 had zero Bears ever? Seems weird. Also I thought it was always Pat Mahomes on everything so where’d that even come from. Idk I’m not mad though, just confused.

  3. EA really loves the comeback story marketing. Six comeback wins and then suddenly cover star, sure. I remember that Kmet play though, that last-second stuff was wild. The jump pass on the cover better be OP in the game or I’m gonna be annoyed, like why show the highlights if the AI can’t do it.
