NOTTINGHAM. England — On a day when England’s innings kept finding small lifelines. Harry Brook’s unbeaten 51 stood out at Trent Bridge as New Zealand maintained control. For New Zealand’s first innings, the standout was the opening partnership. Tom Latham (151) and Devon Conway (157) put on a massive 317-run stand for the first wicket, building the platform that now shaped the chase.

  1. Root getting lbw feels like every time I watch, someone’s out on a technicality. Also Atkinson still being out there like nothing happened??

  2. Dropped on 1 by Conway and then Stokes gets out anyway… that’s gotta hurt. I don’t even get the concussion substitute thing—so they just swapped a guy mid-over? seems kinda unfair.

  3. 317-run first wicket stand and England only got to 314-6?? like how is that even close. And Brooks 51 not out but they’re still “needing to squeeze time” like it’s the end of the world. Also who names the bowler Smith AND a batter Jamie Smith, that’s confusing on purpose.
