Brandon Aiyuk targets NFLPA amid 49ers guarantees void

Brandon Aiyuk didn’t wait for a press conference to say what’s been sitting with him.
On Sunday. the 49ers receiver posted complaints on his Instagram story aimed at the NFL Players Association. writing: “When members of the union that is in place to help players is lying/withholding information from a player on behalf of the team alongside a certified agent.. That’s some straight BS!!!. Some players have no other place to go for information or help. and are relying on the union to help them continue advancing in their careers and lives!. I’m sure there are great members of the union. so this message does not pertain to them but about the ones in my specific case.”.
In the same message, Aiyuk framed his allegation around information and representation, adding a specific caveat that he “does not pertain” to the union’s best members, but to those involved “in my specific case.”
What he has not included, at least as presented in the post, is a detailed, point-by-point complaint about any specific action—or failure—by the NFLPA tied to his situation.
The backdrop to Aiyuk’s comments is the 49ers’ decision to void his contractual guarantees. The situation reportedly moved quickly after that: Aiyuk decided not to fight the voiding. If he had chosen to challenge it, the NFL Players Association would have taken up the cause.
Aiyuk’s post also appears to draw a line between union membership and union leadership—an important distinction, because his wording targets “members of the union” while the NFLPA’s role is collective representation of players rather than coordinating with teams to harm individual rights.
For Aiyuk, the practical question now is what comes next. The message directed at him from the NFLPA. an agent. or anyone else is simple: file with the NFL a petition for reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list. It’s described as his best move—and, crucially, his only move—if he wants the 49ers to release him.
