Boston to Launch Remote Terminal Pilot to Skip Security Lines

Starting June 1, Massport will test a Logan Airport Remote Terminal in Framingham with Delta and JetBlue, letting select passengers check in and clear TSA security before boarding a dedicated bus to the gate.

A pilot program in the Boston area is aiming at the part of flying that most travelers remember best for the wrong reasons: the lines.

Starting June 1. the Massachusetts Port Authority. which runs Boston Logan International Airport. will launch the “Logan Airport Remote Terminal” at Framingham. The effort—described as a “first-of-its-kind” program—will work with the Landline Company. a third-party contractor. and is designed to streamline the trip for passengers before they ever reach the airport.

Passengers from Metro West will check in and complete security screening at a remote terminal in Framingham. After that, they will arrive at Logan by bus and go straight to their gate, bypassing security lines at the airport. Massport says the goal is a “calmer travel experience.”

Massport CEO Rich Davey framed it as an attempt to make the whole journey feel less exhausting. He said passengers in and around Metro West will have “a new, low-stress way to reach Boston Logan,” imagining arrival after check-in and security clearance, followed by a drop-off steps from the gate.

The remote terminal pilot is part of Massport’s broader effort to “reimagine the travel experience” with a more seamless. connected approach. The program also builds on Massport’s existing Logan Express system (LEX). a high-occupancy bus service that takes travelers directly to the terminal curb from five locations in Boston. Massport reported that 2.7 million people used the LEX system in 2025, with Framingham the busiest location in the network.

The pilot program has clear limits, at least at the start. According to the May 18 news release, the remote terminal will be available only for Delta and JetBlue passengers with flights operating from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Massport said it intends to expand access to more airlines in the future.

At Framingham, travelers will check in with their airline and go through TSA before boarding a “dedicated, secure bus” to the airport. Massport also said passengers’ bags will be sent straight through the baggage system.

Delta, for its part, backed the rollout through its sales leadership. In the release, Charlie Schewe, Delta’s director of sales – East, called the program “forward-thinking,” saying it was aimed at elevating the journey and getting travelers to their destinations “seamlessly.”

Reserving a spot is also a key part of how the pilot is expected to run. Travelers must book no later than 90 minutes before their flight departure and no more than 90 days in advance. The cost is $9 one way, with the return trip via the Framingham LEX service. Massport warned that because this is a pilot with limited seating. passengers should book early and “allow for some flexibility as the program gets underway.”.

Reservations will be made online at Massport’s website.
