The question for Toronto now is simple: can a fresh swing change the tone right away?

The Blue Jays have selected infielder Luis Urias to their major-league roster and he is active for Monday’s game against the Houston Astros. Toronto made the move ahead of the matchup, with first pitch set for 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.

Urias arrives after Toronto acquired him over the weekend from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for cash considerations. The 29-year-old is an eight-year MLB veteran, but has not been able to crack the Diamondbacks’ big-league roster this season.

His path through the majors has included stops with the San Diego Padres. Milwaukee Brewers. Boston Red Sox. Seattle Mariners. and Athletics. With Oakland in 2025, he posted a .230/.315/.338 line with eight home runs across 96 games. Over his career, Urias holds a .231/.329/.378 slash line with 60 home runs.

The move also comes with another roster adjustment: Yohendrick Piñango has been optioned to triple-A. Piñango’s early MLB impact has been strong—since being called up in late April, he has batted .283 with a .764 OPS and four home runs in 43 games.

Still, the numbers have shifted as of late. Piñango has managed just two hits in his last seven games, and he hasn’t hit a home run since June 7 against the Baltimore Orioles.

There’s an immediate sense of urgency to the timing. Toronto added Urias to be active for the Astros, while moving Piñango down after a late skid—two different reactions aimed at the same problem: getting the lineup back to clicking when the margin is thin.

For Urias, Monday could be a debut moment. For Piñango, it’s a reset—one day away from a major-league rhythm that had been working, and now needs to return.
