Blair Witch Returns: Dylan Clark Leads 2027 Remake

The Blair Witch Project is getting a theatrically released remake in 2027, with Dylan Clark bringing a new interpretation and the original filmmakers—Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale—serving as executive producers. Lionsgate will release the film

For horror fans, the Blair Witch Project has never really stayed quiet. Now, it’s set to come back to theaters with a fresh take.

It was recently announced that one of the defining horror films of the 20th century will be getting a remake: The Blair Witch Project will return with a new interpretation courtesy of YouTube horror prodigy Dylan Clark. The original filmmakers—Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale—will also return as executive producers.

Lionsgate will release the remake theatrically on September 24, 2027, with the studio framing it as the start of what promises to be an exciting Halloween season of cinema.

Of course, this won’t be the first time filmmakers have tried to build from the original film. Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 arrived just one year later, and it earned poor critical reception. Adam Wingard’s Blair Witch in 2016 also failed to impress. adding to the idea that a Blair Witch continuation is easy to attempt—and hard to land.

The new remake will be hoping to channel the spirit that’s made some of the best horror remakes endure. One comparison that keeps coming up is 1978’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers. That remake saw Philip Kaufman take on Don Siegel’s original. which itself was adapted from Jack Finney’s 1954 sci-fi novel. Of the adaptations of Finney’s story. the second feature adaptation is described as the best—and it has since been followed by many more.

In 1993. director Abel Ferrara teamed up with stars Gabrielle Anwar. Billy Wirth. Terry Kinney. and more for an adaptation that severely underwhelmed. The most recent interpretation tied to Hollywood stardom came via Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. though the 2007 film The Invasion was met with plenty of negativity. Through all of it. the 1978 version is positioned as the benchmark. with fans able to watch it for free on Plex starting in July.

That full track record—both for Blair Witch attempts and for sci-fi horror remakes in general—makes the stakes feel clear. The announcement isn’t just about getting the title back into theaters. It’s about whether the people closest to the source material. along with a new creative voice led by Dylan Clark. can turn another shot at dread into something that sticks.

  1. Wait so it’s not actually a sequel, it’s a “remake remake”? Also YouTube horror prodigy sounds like a lot of hype for something that’s already iconic. If it’s anything like that 2016 one I’m gonna pass.

  2. Book of Shadows was the one that got me cuz it was like immediately confusing so I’m like… why would they do another one. Plus Plex free starting in July?? That part feels like a trap, like watch it and then buy the new one. Also didn’t they already remake Body Snatchers like 10 times lol.

  3. This is gonna be dumb if they try to “explain” anything. Blair Witch worked cause it was basically nobody knew what was happening. YouTube dude Dylan Clark is gonna overdo it, and Lionsgate loves milking Halloween. Also September 24 2027 like what, they gonna drop a trailer the day before?
