Bill Simmons’ four-team trade idea rocks Giannis talk

Bill Simmons’ – Bill Simmons floated a wildly specific 2026 offseason trade scenario: Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics, Jaylen Brown as the centerpiece, and Los Angeles Clippers acting as the “third team” with the No. 5 pick—while Kawhi Leonard supposedly ends up w

It’s the kind of offseason scenario that starts as a thought and quickly turns into a full-blown basketball puzzle.

Bill Simmons. discussing NBA trade rumors surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jaylen Brown. asked whether the Los Angeles Clippers could play the key middle role. His version of the deal would send Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics. but he said Milwaukee’s path might require more moving parts than a simple two-team swap.

“Could the Clipps, with the fifth pick, move in there and be the third team?” Simmons pondered. “And then, the second piece of this, would they send Kawhi to Miami as a consolation prize?”

Simmons expanded the same idea again in a longer clip, laying out the mechanics as a sequence: “I heard this too during the weekend. Could the Clippers with the 5th pick move in there and be the 3rd team and then the 2nd piece of this, would they then send Kawhi to…”.

The core of the proposal is straightforward: the Bucks’ two-time MVP-level player—Antetokounmpo—would be paired with Jaylen Brown. Brown is a logical target in any Giannis conversation, and Simmons’ scenario leans on the fact that Brown won the NBA Finals MVP in 2024.

But the question hanging over any deal for Milwaukee is what the rebuilding Bucks would realistically want to add. The proposal is built around the idea that a rebuilding team might not want to take on another veteran player after already having a veteran-caliber star in the building. That’s where the Clippers come in, acting as the “facilitator” to reshape what each team gives and receives.

In Simmons’ framework, involving L.A. would let Milwaukee potentially add a prestigious selection: the No. 5 pick. The Celtics, in turn, would not just be shopping for a headline—Antetokounmpo’s presence would represent an upgrade. The Celtics also wouldn’t necessarily need to break up the Brown–Jayson Tatum pairing. especially after what’s described as a gap year of sorts.

For the Clippers, the logic is also tied to Brown’s impact. The plan suggests Los Angeles would receive a player who “looked like a true number one option this season,” with Tatum spending much of the year hurt.

The trade picture widens again because Simmons’ version isn’t just three teams—it’s technically four. Under the scenario as described, the Miami Heat would also be involved, receiving Kawhi Leonard.

That portion connects to reported interest already swirling around Antetokounmpo’s next stop. The Heat have been reported as Antetokounmpo’s preferred destination. and Leonard’s fit is argued as well. specifically through defense and mid-range shooting. In this setup. Leonard would also be viewed as a substitute for Jimmy Butler. with the Heat having looked for that replacement since Butler’s departure.

Put together. the idea hinges on one central bargaining tool—movement through a third team—while keeping the headline outcomes intact: Giannis landing in Boston. Brown acting as the centerpiece. and Kawhi ending up in Miami. potentially as the kind of consolation prize that keeps a complicated market from collapsing.

Whether or not the offseason ends up matching Simmons’ exact template, the fact remains that it’s the first time the trade talk has been mapped so concretely—down to the Clippers’ fifth pick and a specific destination for Kawhi.
