Bank holiday next week: SBI, HDFC closed July 5
banks closed – Banks across India will close for only one day next week between 29 June and 5 July, 2026. The Reserve Bank of India has listed Sunday, 5 July, as a holiday, while online banking and payment options like UPI remain available.
For many customers, the week already started with a simple plan: walk into the branch, finish a payment or deposit, and be done. Then a single date—July 5, 2026—shows up as a bank closure across the country.
Private and public sector banks in India will remain closed for only one day in the upcoming week between 29 June and 5 July. 2026. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has listed that closure under its bank holiday calendar: next week banks will be closed on July 5. which is a Sunday. That means branch services at places such as SBI. HDFC Bank. and other banks will not be available on that day.
The bigger picture is built from RBI’s broader calendar. The RBI has listed a total of eleven holidays in June and 12 days in July due to national. regional. and religious holidays. The list also includes weekend closures for the second Saturday, the fourth Saturday, and all Sundays. While some bank holidays are tied to specific states or regions. branches across the country will still close on the gazetted national holidays.
In July 2026, the RBI holiday calendar marks specific regional closures as well—days when banks will be closed only in certain places. The non-working days listed for July are:
July 6: Banks will be closed in Aizwal for MHIP Day. July 9: Banks will be closed in Shillong for Beh Deinkhlam. July 16: Banks will be closed in Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Imphal for Ratha Yatra/Kang (Rathajatra)/Harela. July 17: Banks will be closed in Shillong to observe Death Anniversary of U Tirot Singh. July 18: Banks will be closed in Gangtok to observe Drukpa Tshe-zi. July 22: Banks will be closed in Agartala to observe Kharchi Puja.
Beyond these location-specific dates, Saturdays and Sundays are built into the system. Under RBI guidelines. all scheduled and non-scheduled banks observe mandatory closure on all second and fourth Saturdays. as well as every Sunday. In practical terms, customers will not be able to access in-branch services on those days.
With four Sundays in July, banks will remain closed on 5, 12, 19, and 26 July. In addition to Sundays, banks will be closed on 11 July (second Saturday) and 25 July (fourth Saturday).
Even when branches shut their doors, banking doesn’t fully stop. Customers are advised to check with their local bank branches for exact holiday applicability. but essential services remain operational nationwide during these closures. Online banking services stay available, and customers can continue using digital tools for financial transactions.
UPI and bank apps also work round the clock, whether banks are open or not. There can be times when services may be down due to scheduled maintenance, during which banks notify customers.
For fund transfers, customers can use NEFT/RTGS transfer forms, demand draft request forms, and chequebook forms during bank holidays. Credit cards, debit cards, and ATM cards remain accessible through card services as well. Other services—like account maintenance forms, setting up standing instructions, and applying for a locker—are also open.
The message for customers is simple: if a visit to a branch is on the calendar, July 5 is the day to plan around—and for the rest of July, the RBI’s holiday list provides the dates when closures shift from universal Sundays to specific regional observances.

So banks are closed on a Sunday… shocking.
Wait July 5 is Sunday so they just close every bank? My cousin said SBI will be open though, like online only works but branches might still take deposits? Confusing.
I don’t get why they keep announcing closures like it’s news. If UPI works then who cares. But also they say HDFC closed July 5 and then mention all Sundays anyway so… is it actually special or just normal weekend stuff?
This article makes it sound like only one day but then it lists like a bunch of other July days like July 6 and July 9 and all that. Also it says 29 June to 5 July but July 5 is the last day so what about the days in between? UPI will be available so I’m guessing you can still go to the ATM at least, right? I’m just gonna wait till Monday now.
