A Massachusetts State Police trooper was relieved of duty after surveillance video allegedly captured him brawling with another trooper at a restaurant in Quincy.
The incident, investigators say, happened while both officers were off-duty. The State Police spokesperson said neither trooper has been publicly identified and that further details of the incident remain unclear.
The only widely circulated account so far comes from surveillance footage posted to Facebook by “What’s The Word Mass.” The video appears to show a shoving match that quickly escalated into physical blows at ReelHouse Marina Bay. One off-duty trooper is shown seated on a barstool while the other remains standing. In the footage. the trooper who is on his feet appears to land several blows to the head. seemingly rendering the other man unconscious.
“The conduct depicted is serious and inconsistent with the standards required of every member of this Department, whether on duty or off duty,” the spokesperson said.
State Police said the trooper was relieved of duty immediately after the department learned of the incident. That suspension will remain in place pending a formal duty-status hearing.
The department also said its Office of Professional Integrity and Accountability is investigating the facts and circumstances of the incident and will take action based on what it finds.
For now, the case rests on the still-unresolved question at the center of the video: what happened in that moment at the bar—and how two officers, off the clock, ended up in a fight severe enough to draw departmental discipline.
