Bacolod to Provide Free School Supplies and Uniforms

The Bacolod City Government is set to provide free school supplies, bags, and uniforms to public school students this academic year to support families amidst ongoing economic challenges.

Thousands of students across Bacolod City are set to receive a significant boost this academic year as the local government moves to distribute free school supplies, bags, and uniforms.

Beginning this upcoming school year, the City Government of Bacolod will provide free school supplies and bags to over 64,000 public elementary students. Additionally, nearly 47,000 junior and senior high school students are slated to receive free school bags and physical education uniforms.

This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on families struggling with rising costs. By providing these essential materials, local officials hope to remove potential barriers that might keep children out of the classroom.

Misryoum reports that this widespread support serves as a practical buffer for local households, ensuring that the cost of basic educational necessities does not disrupt a student’s commitment to their studies.

The program is funded through the Special Education Fund, with approximately 90 million pesos allocated to ensure the supplies reach the students on time. Mayor Greg Gasataya emphasized that this move is not merely a government expense but a long-term investment in the city’s youth.

“Please consider this not as an expense from the City Government. For us, this is an investment in the future of the youth of Bacolod City,” the mayor stated, highlighting the city’s commitment to keeping students enrolled despite external economic pressures.

This policy builds upon an existing ordinance from 2016, which previously focused on providing materials to elementary pupils. The current expansion reflects a broader effort to cover costs from Kindergarten through Senior High School, following coordination with local education authorities.

City officials are currently finalizing the logistics for the distribution process to ensure that all gear is delivered before the first day of classes. This proactive planning is intended to ensure a smooth transition for students as they return to campus.

Ensuring that students are equipped with necessary materials is a proven method for maintaining school attendance rates and fostering an environment where quality education remains accessible to all, regardless of the current economic climate.
