Atlantic Fire in Broward hits 4,755 acres, no containment

Atlantic Fire – A fast-growing wildfire in western Broward County has consumed 4,755 acres and was 0% contained as of 8:01 p.m. June 29, after igniting over the weekend near major roads. The blaze grew from 180 acres by Sunday as other large fires burn across Miami-Dade Count
When the Atlantic Fire flared up over the weekend, it didn’t just spread—it accelerated. By Sunday, the wildfire had already grown to 180 acres.
As firefighters worked to slow it down, the fire surged again. By 8:01 p.m. June 29, the Florida Forest Service map of active wildfires showed the Atlantic Fire had burned 4,755 acres and was 0% contained. The blaze is located near the Sawgrass Expressway and Commercial Boulevard in western Broward County.
The scale of the Atlantic Fire is unfolding while Miami-Dade County continues to deal with its own outbreaks from recent weeks. Three wildfires in neighboring Miami-Dade County cumulatively consumed over 19,000 acres over the past few weeks.
One of those fires is the Quarry 2 Fire, which began on June 15 near NW 137 Avenue and NW 41 Street. As of 1:26 p.m. June 21, the Florida Forest Service map showed it had grown to 19,018 acres and was 97% contained.
Another is the Well Fire, which began on June 16 and is located near NW 122 Avenue and NW 58 Street. By 4:41 p.m. June 25, it had burned 2,814 acres and was 90% contained.
The Corrections Fire, located south of 8th Street and west of Krome Avenue, had burned 363 acres and was 95% contained as of 12:12 p.m. June 25.
The numbers show a stark contrast: some blazes in the region were already nearing full containment by late June, while the Atlantic Fire—burning near major thoroughfares—was still completely uncontained at 8:01 p.m. June 29.
For Broward County, that difference matters in a very immediate way. A wildfire at 0% containment after burning 4,755 acres means crews are not just managing fire behavior—they’re racing the clock with the fire still actively expanding near key corridors.
As the Atlantic Fire continues to burn in western Broward County. the wider picture in South Florida remains urgent: multiple fires have burned thousands of acres across county lines in recent weeks. and the Atlantic Fire’s rapid jump from 180 acres by Sunday to 4. 755 acres by June 29 underscores how quickly conditions can shift.

0% contained?? How is that even possible… like at least try to stop it.
I saw Sawgrass mentioned and thought it was by the mall or something. If it’s near Commercial Blvd then that’s gonna mess up traffic bad. They should’ve closed the roads earlier.
97% contained on the other fire and then this Atlantic one is still 0%… so is it a funding thing or what? I don’t get why they can’t just use the same strategy. Also 4,755 acres sounds made up like where do they even measure that.
These fires are always ‘near major roads’ like that’s a surprise. People just keep building out there then act shocked when it burns. Quarry 2 and the rest too—honestly it’s like Florida is on easy mode for wildfires now.
