ASUS marks ROG’s 20th with Ally X20 bundle

ASUS is celebrating 20 years of Republic of Gamers with the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a limited-edition handheld built on the same platform as last year’s Ally X but upgraded with a 7.4-inch 1080p 120Hz OLED display and new controller tech. The bundle also includes A
When ASUS talks about the ROG Xbox Ally X20, it doesn’t start with specs—it calls the device a “true collector’s item.” And that language matters, because the bundle itself leans hard into premium pricing territory, even before ASUS reveals the final number.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is ASUS’s 20th-anniversary special edition for its Republic of Gamers brand. It uses the same hardware platform as last year’s handheld. but it swaps in a new display: a 7.4-inch 1080p 120Hz OLED panel. ASUS says the screen can hit up to 1,400-nit peak brightness and includes AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.
The display also isn’t just about brightness. ASUS points to the Nebula HDR OLED panel’s 0.2ms response time. a VESA DisplayHDR 1000 rating. and full Dolby Vision support. It’s protected by Corning DXC glass with an anti-reflective coating meant to keep visuals looking clean during gaming or entertainment.
OLEDs are also sensitive to heat, and ASUS has redesigned the airflow channels to keep display temperatures as low as possible—an internal tweak that hints at the company’s focus on making the upgraded panel feel stable, not just impressive on paper.
Under the hood, the handheld leans on the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage. ASUS also highlights Auto SR preview for sharper and smoother graphics, noting that the feature was previously reserved for Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs.
The hardware details extend to how you control the device. ASUS adds new TMR joystick tech for improved precision and tracking, along with longer-lasting performance. The handheld also features a Transforming D-Pad with up to eight-way control. plus improved face buttons that sit flush on the chassis for smoother thumb sliding. Around back, the rear of the handgrips gets a rubberized coating designed for enhanced comfort and control.
Visually, ASUS is aiming for a premium display, too. The ROG Xbox Ally X20 uses a translucent black plastic chassis that shows the processor and cooling system, paired with gold accents.
The collector angle turns into a full display solution with the bundle. The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is packaged with a pair of ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses in a matching black and gold colorway. ASUS says the glasses provide a virtual 171-inch screen at 4 meters. with a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.01ms response time thanks to micro-OLED tech. Native 3DoF lets the glasses track head movement, and they connect to the Ally via a USB-C cable.
ASUS hasn’t announced pricing or a launch date for the bundle. But the separate parts already sketch the financial picture. The ROG Xbox Ally X is priced at $1. 000 on its own. while the ROG XReal R1 glasses—announced on May 15—are available for $849. With ASUS leaning into “collector” branding, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 bundle could easily approach or exceed $2,000.
For players willing to pay for both a handheld gaming PC and a high-end AR viewing setup, that math is the point. For everyone else, the waiting game is simple: will ASUS treat this like a limited celebration—or price it like a statement?
