Arsenal push Leicester talks to sign Jeremy Monga

Arsenal talks – Arsenal are in direct club-to-club contact with Leicester City over a potential move for 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga, with negotiations focused on an agreement on a fee that suits both sides rather than a tribunal decision.
The phone calls have started, the discussions have moved beyond general interest, and Arsenal are now in club-to-club contact with Leicester City as they work toward a deal for Jeremy Monga.
An agreement has yet to be reached. But the situation has advanced to direct negotiations—handled respectfully on all sides—because of the one thing that makes this move more delicate than most: Monga is 16, and his age matters in every step of how talks are framed and managed.
Monga has attracted attention from a host of leading teams, yet his aim has been clear. He only wanted Arsenal, and the English champions are trying to get a fee that both sides are happy with—rather than letting the question be decided by a tribunal.
That urgency comes with context. Monga is the third-youngest player in history to feature in a Premier League match, behind Arsenal’s Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri. He made his professional Leicester debut at 15 years and 271 days against Newcastle United in April 2025.
His early profile didn’t fade after that debut. He went on to make 37 first-team appearances for Leicester, with 30 of those coming during the 2025-26 season across all competitions, often used as an impact option from the bench.
Last year, The Athletic reported that Monga’s performances for Leicester’s Under-21 side drew interest from a number of clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea. He also made seven substitute appearances in the top-flight as Leicester were relegated under Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Leicester’s position in these talks is shaped by how his contract is set up. Monga committed to a one-year scholarship deal beginning on July 10 last year. a structure that is designed to turn into a professional contract when he turns 17. Agreeing those scholarship terms was significant for Leicester because it meant a transfer fee would have to be negotiated for a club trying to sign the teenager. rather than him potentially being able to leave for a smaller fee.
Even as the club-to-club conversations move forward, Leicester are dealing with the fallout of last season. They were relegated to League One—the third tier of English football—after being deducted six points in February for breaching the English Football League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) during the three-year period ending with the 2023-24 season.
Leicester have, at times, had a strong record of retaining young talent. But recent years show the pressure academy players face, especially when bigger clubs come calling. Promising academy departures have included Trey Nyoni to Liverpool and Tyrese Noubissie to Manchester City.
So when Arsenal contact Leicester now, it’s not just about buying a future talent. It’s about what happens when one of the club’s own produces something rare—then finds himself at the center of a market that moves faster than any academy plan.
What kind of player is Monga?. He is predominantly right-footed. loves to be direct and get at the full-back to cut inside and go for goal. and draws admiration for the way he competes in one-on-one situations. Even some of his more experienced peers in Leicester’s senior squad noticed it when he trained with them. Not everyone enjoyed it, though—some didn’t take too kindly to the moments when he would nutmeg them.
Leicester used him predominantly off the left so he could cut inside on his right. But England Under-18s manager Ben Futcher has also deployed him off the right. And as his goal against Greece showed on May 31, he can be effective down the middle too.
The numbers back up what his style suggests. Across all three competitions, he averaged 7.8 take-ons per 90 minutes across 1,088 minutes, with a 36 per cent success rate. He also made three key passes after a take-on. showing that—despite his lack of experience—he can make the right decision after beating his opponent.
He is not finished. Like any young player, he has areas to improve. Defensively, he needs to understand when and how to track back to help his full-back. In attack, he can improve his final ball. Those are the kinds of gaps that coaching and repetition can narrow.
And yet it’s precisely the raw ingredients that keep clubs circling: Monga has the instincts and the output that make a prominent Premier League attacking player feel plausible rather than distant.
For now, the next step is simple in description and hard in execution. Arsenal and Leicester are negotiating a fee, with Monga’s age sitting at the center of the process. An outcome hasn’t been agreed. But the direct conversations are underway—and once that line is drawn. this deal stops being a “maybe. ” and starts becoming a timeline.

So they’re negotiating a fee for a 16-year-old? That seems kinda wild, like how is this not a big deal.
I don’t get it… if he’s 16 shouldn’t he be in school or something? Also “tribunal” sounds like they’re just avoiding getting in trouble with the league.
People keep saying third-youngest ever blah blah but I’m more stuck on the part about phone calls already started. Like does that mean Leicester already agreed or is Arsenal just calling to lowball them? Probably Arsenal being Arsenal.
Real Madrid was interested? That’s crazy. I swear I read somewhere he played for Arsenal already in training or something, and now it’s just talks? Also the tribunal thing… why not just let the player choose? They keep talking about fee like it’s the only issue.
