She knows the aisle rhythm by heart: a quick stop every two weeks to keep weekdays moving. even when there’s little time for cooking. As a single woman working full-time as a TV news producer and teaching journalism part-time. she doesn’t do “a ton of cooking.” Aldi fills the gap with quick meals and reasonably priced snacks.
On her most recent visit, she stocked a mix of brand-name favorites and store-brand staples—because for her, the payoff isn’t just taste. It’s cost, speed, and the ability to pull a meal together without turning her evening into a second shift.
Prices may vary by location.
She starts with protein that’s easy to grab and reshape across the week. She says Goldhen large eggs are a great value. and during her most recent visit she bought a dozen large Goldhen eggs for $1.46. She scrambles them on weekday mornings and hard-boils a batch on Sundays for grab-and-go protein during the week.
For weekday breakfast, she keeps Chobani Greek yogurt in her cart, calling it one of her favorite brand-name items to get at Aldi. She favors the pineapple and mango Fruit on the Bottom flavors.
When she wants something she can fold into different meals, she reaches for Little Salad Bar spinach. Whenever she’s at Aldi, she grabs an 8-ounce bag of Little Salad Bar spinach for $1.90, adding it to smoothies, omelets, pasta, and more.
Her pantry staple for sandwiches and toast is L’Oven Fresh honey-wheat bread. Growing up. her mom and grandma always kept a loaf of honey-wheat bread on top of the fridge. and now she buys the L’Oven Fresh version to keep in her home. She uses it for toast in the mornings and quick turkey sandwiches when she’s packing lunch.
For Friday nights, she leans on convenience without giving up on the “easy dinner” feeling. Mama Cozzi’s take-and-bake pizza is her go-to, and she says she loves the frozen pepperoni variety. When she has a night to herself. she pops it in the oven—sometimes even pouring a glass of wine while it cooks. She says it’s done in about 15 minutes.
She’s also drawn to restaurant-style flavors when the price is right. At Aldi, she says she can get a container of Panera Bread broccoli-cheddar soup for just $3.40. She adds that a cup of the same soup at the restaurant chain typically costs closer to $9. and she believes the taste is identical—creamy and rich. with sharp cheddar and big florets of broccoli in every bite.
Then there are the “no-brainer” dinner options. She buys Giovanni Rana chicken fettuccine Alfredo for nights when she doesn’t want to think about dinner. At $14.97. she calls it one of the more expensive items on her shopping list. but she says she gets multiple meals out of one bag and that it saves her from ordering takeout after long workdays. She also says it tastes homemade.
For a lunch that’s ready fast, she reaches for the Little Salad Bar Caesar kit. She says it comes with lettuce, chicken, and dressing, and that the kit is already in the bowl with chicken and romaine, plus dressing.
On days when she’s heading straight to a workout, she keeps her snack portable. Chomps mini turkey sticks are always in her Pilates bag. She says they’re antibiotic-free turkey sticks with 5 grams of protein per serving. and she typically grabs a six-pack of Chomps mini sticks for $6.90. She adds that they’re not too salty or smoky.
And for something she can sip without planning, she keeps Health-Ade kombucha on hand. She says she enjoys the pink-lady apple flavor, describing it as crisp, slightly tart, and with the right amount of sweetness from the apple flavor.
When her schedule doesn’t allow a trip to the drive-thru, she turns to a ready-made coffee alternative. She reaches for a bottle of Starbucks iced espresso when she doesn’t have time to head to the drive-thru. She says Aldi sells several varieties of Starbucks iced espresso, and that the mocha flavor is always in her fridge. She also notes she’s seen vanilla and caramel-macchiato versions at Aldi.
Even in a short shopping routine. her cart tells a clear story: eggs. yogurt. spinach. bread. and soup that stretch across the week; a take-and-bake pizza for a consistent Friday treat; and a handful of snacks and drinks built for mornings. workouts. and late days when eating out would be the easiest option—just not the cheapest.
