Anthropic files confidential IPO plans after $65B surge

Anthropic confidentially – Anthropic filed confidential plans for an initial public offering, but has not set how many shares it will sell or the price. The filing arrives after the company raised $65 billion and was valued at $965 billion—surpassing OpenAI’s $852 billion valuation reac

On Monday, Anthropic said it filed confidential plans for an initial public offering, setting the stage for what could become one of the most closely watched market debuts in years.

The company hasn’t determined how many shares it will sell or what price it would seek. Still, the registration statement it filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission makes clear it is aiming for “a proposed initial public offering of our common stock.”

That filing lands in the middle of a banner year for big-name tech flotations. Anthropic is one of three highly anticipated AI initial public offerings expected for this year, alongside OpenAI and SpaceX. For retail investors. the appeal is direct: the chance to get in on some of the most valuable AI startups and. for early investors. the possibility of outsized paydays.

The timing also matters because Anthropic’s momentum has been hard to miss. Last week, the company said it raised another $65 billion, valuing it at $965 billion. In the competition for investor attention and market share. that valuation puts Anthropic ahead of OpenAI’s $852 billion valuation reached in March. Earlier this spring. Anthropic also surged past OpenAI in business adoption of its enterprise tools. based on data from the fintech firm Ramp.

Even with the momentum. the company has been dealing with pressures that don’t vanish just because a fundraising milestone lands. Earlier this year. Anthropic became embroiled in a public feud with the White House and the Defense Department over the use of its technology. More recently, its powerful AI model Mythos has also raised cybersecurity concerns in the government and on Wall Street.

The business case is moving, too. Anthropic has expanded its offerings to businesses this year. building on the popularity of its Claude Code AI software development tool. And as rivals push ahead. Anthropic’s path to growth comes with its own risks: it faces fresh competition from OpenAI and Google as both companies update and improve their coding tools.

An IPO would change the atmosphere around all of it by bringing the company’s financial reality into sharper focus. For investors, it would be the first concrete window into Anthropic’s financial data at a time when concerns about an AI bubble have simmered over the past year.

The filing doesn’t end the debate—it sharpens it. If the market is betting on extraordinary returns from AI leaders. the public release of financial details is likely to become the moment people look for confirmation or warning signs. Anthropic now has a timeline that’s no longer hypothetical. even as the number of shares and the final offer price have yet to be decided.
