Alvin Kamara skips Saints OTA practice Thursday

When Saints head coach Kellen Moore stepped into Thursday’s press conference, one name wasn’t on the field. Running back Alvin Kamara was not in attendance for that day’s OTA practice.

Moore made the point plainly: Kamara isn’t taking part in the voluntary offseason work. That matters less because it’s routine—Kamara has often worked out with his own trainers in the weeks leading into the next season—and more because of what comes with it. Earlier this month. General Manager Mickey Loomis said the team is trying to see “how [Kamara is] gonna fit on our roster.” Now. with the offseason program underway. Kamara’s absence from the practice floor becomes one more detail in a conversation the Saints themselves have said is ongoing.

The Saints are not asking Kamara to be there. OTA sessions are voluntary, meaning he is not required to attend.

Kamara’s contract gives the situation a clear timeline. He is under contract through the 2026 season, and he is set to make $3 million guaranteed this season.

Last season, Kamara appeared in 11 games, producing 657 yards from scrimmage. He rushed for 471 yards with one touchdown and caught 33 passes for 186 yards.

Moore also addressed other absences from Thursday’s OTA practice. Nathan Shepherd, Zach Wilson, and Ryan Wright are not participating for personal reasons.

The same day the Saints are sorting through their offseason availability, they’re also doing the part that happens off the field: figuring out how a veteran player under contract and scheduled to earn $3 million guaranteed this season fits into the roster they’re building toward 2026.

  1. Sounds like the Saints are trying to trade him or just not like the fit anymore. $3 million guaranteed and he’s skipping practice… idk man.

  2. Wait I thought OTA was mandatory? Like if he’s under contract thru 2026 then he should be showing up unless he’s injured or something. This is probably just for the cameras… or the league rules changed again.

  3. Kamara not being at one OTA day feels like nothing, but the article made it seem like some huge roster drama. Also they said he does workouts with his own trainers, so is that counted or not? Meanwhile they mentioned Zach Wilson and Ryan Wright too like it’s all connected, but maybe they just had family stuff. Saints always saying “fit on the roster” like they aren’t gonna keep him anyway.
