When the verdict came in Thursday afternoon, Alvin Campbell Jr.’s trial tipped overwhelmingly against him.

After five days of deliberations, a Suffolk County jury convicted Campbell on 21 out of 22 counts. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced the guilty verdict, and Campbell is scheduled to be sentenced June 29 in Suffolk County Superior Court.

The case centered on a pattern prosecutors described as deliberate and disguised. The trial began May 18. and court records show that closing statements were read before the first day of deliberations on June 4. Prosecutors said that between 2017 and 2019. Campbell repeatedly posed as a ride-share driver to pick up women who were leaving bars and clubs in downtown Boston—women they said were too intoxicated to consent to sex or to resist assaults.

The jury found Campbell guilty on a range of rape and sexual assault charges. Court records show he faced accusations of rape, aggravated rape, assault to rape, kidnapping, photographing an unsuspecting nude person, and indecent assault and battery on a person age 14 or over.

Jurors deadlocked on one count of rape. The judge declared a mistrial on that charge. Prosecutors said they have not yet decided what action, if any, will be taken to address the remaining charge.

For prosecutors, the counts were tied to nine women they said were targeted in incidents “chillingly similar.” They said some of the women had vague memories of being assaulted, while others had none at all.

One incident described in court filings involved a woman leaving a bar near North Station on Dec. 7, 2019. Prosecutors said the woman passed out in the back of Campbell’s SUV and awoke hours later at his home in Rhode Island in pain. with Campbell lying naked next to her. Court filings also said DNA collected during her sexual assault examination matched Campbell’s genetic profile.

Investigators later searched Campbell’s phone and cloud-based data storage, where they found videos and images depicting the rapes and sexual assaults of that woman and eight others, according to the filings.

Because of past convictions on firearms charges and “acts of violence,” Campbell was charged as a habitual offender. Prosecutors said that status means he could face a sentence of life in prison.

At the same time. the case has been viewed in close connection to Massachusetts politics because Campbell is the older brother of Attorney General Andrea Campbell. In a since-deleted social media post last month. the attorney general said she was “praying for the survivors and all those affected.” She added: “This is an incredibly difficult situation for everyone involved. and I carry that weight with me. including in my prayers for my brother. The case is now before the court, and I respect the judicial process as it moves forward.”.

In remarks following the verdict announcement. Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. “The jury determined that Alvin Campbell was what our prosecutors presented in court. which was a man who cunningly. deceivingly. and calculatingly preyed upon women in their most vulnerable moments as they were coming out of bars and clubs in the city of Boston.” Hayden said he couldn’t imagine “what that horror must have been like for them. ” and that his office was “grateful to the jurors for their service.”.

The verdict did not mark the end of the legal proceedings involving Campbell. Separately, he was charged in 2025 with attacking a correctional officer at Suffolk County Jail. He then faced additional charges earlier this year for allegedly assaulting two other inmates at Hampshire County Jail and House of Correction. Both of those cases remain pending.

Campbell’s attorneys, Andrew Courossi and Hannah Taylor, did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday night.
