Ali Larter tells Cole Hauser: Texas heat isn’t optional

Ali Larter didn’t buy Cole Hauser’s complaints about filming in Texas, pushing back that actors should embrace the heat rather than retreat to climate control. In a separate discussion, she also described how her own show’s grueling, movie-like production sche

Texas heat has a way of cutting through excuses.

Cole Hauser recently complained about filming in the Lone Star State, saying the weather made it difficult to maintain a certain weight because he kept sweating it all out. Ali Larter, however, had no sympathy to spare—and she made that point plain.

“If you can’t take the heat. then I guess get out of Texas. ” Larter said. framing the choice as simple: if the story is set in Texas. the shoot should feel like Texas. She told People she prefers working in conditions where the environment is part of the job. adding that it shouldn’t be swapped out for something more comfortable just because it’s easier.

“I actually prefer to work in environments where, if it’s Texas. And it’s supposed to be hot, let’s shoot in the heat,” Larter said. “I don’t want to shoot in an air-conditioned place three states away. For me personally, I’ve always liked to shoot on location. Especially if you have the luxury of filming where the story actually takes place.”.

Then came the joke—one aimed directly at her fellow Taylor Sheridan universe. Larter played it for laughs, saying, “Come on, tell Cole he can handle the heat.”

The exchange lands on more than personal preference, because both actors work within the larger sandbox of Taylor Sheridan. Whether that shared creative world ever turns into an on-screen collision isn’t confirmed—but the idea alone hangs in the air. The tension between “work it on location” and “the heat is too much” now has a louder voice. powered by Larter’s insistence that discomfort can be part of authenticity.

Larter didn’t stop at Texas, though. She also opened up about filming her own show, describing how the process shapes performance. In her view. actors can’t just be identical versions of themselves when cameras aren’t rolling; instead. they’re expected to drop into their roles as soon as production begins.

“I think you expect some of us as characters to be the exact same when we’re not on camera. and I think that we all really fall into our roles when we’re shooting. ” Larter shared. She credited the atmosphere on set to an “extraordinary cast” that. as she put it. “give 110% of their energy and their time and commitment.”.

That commitment takes time. She said production takes more than five months, and during those stretches the cast feels like they’re working through something close to a full feature.

“Production takes more than five months, leaving the cast to feel like they’re ‘shooting a movie every single time we do a session,’” she said.

And just in case anyone thinks the schedule is casual, she added that the entire cast is meant to keep raising the bar—scene by scene—until it’s right.

“I think we put that time and care and commitment in from the entire cast to make sure that we are always playing at the top of our game, and we’re never moving on unless we get the scene,” Larter explained.

  1. Seems like she’s missing the point? Like sweating to keep weight and staying healthy are different things. Also “get out of Texas” is kind of a rude flex for a movie set.

  2. Wait so she wants them to film in AC free Texas like that’s some kind of requirement?? I thought actors literally never do the real conditions, like they always fake it with fans and stuff. Taylor Sheridan universe collision… I don’t even know what that means half the time lol.

  3. Idk, Cole Hauser talking about weight sounds like excuses but Ali Larter saying air-conditioned place “three states away” is kinda funny yet kinda not. If it’s so important to shoot where it’s set, why is Hollywood always bringing in the same gear anyway? Also I saw somewhere that they shut down for heat before, so like… pick a lane?
