Brandon Aiyuk’s day off the field turned into a legal flashpoint after a YouTube video surfaced showing him driving far above speed limits near Levi’s Stadium.

A warrant has been issued in Northern California for the arrest of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. according to a report from the California Post. A court document obtained through reporting describes a formal misdemeanor complaint filed by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. A district attorney’s spokesperson declined to confirm whether a warrant had been issued.

The complaint says the crime of exhibition of speed occurred “on or about December 20. 2025.” That date matches the day Aiyuk posted a video to YouTube in which he appears to drive more than 100 mph on a freeway near Levi’s Stadium. home of the 49ers. The same video shows him driving more than 90 mph through intersections next to the stadium. where the speed limit is 25 mph. according to San Jose city data.

Court paperwork described the conduct as a motor vehicle exhibition of speed on a highway. and it says official reports and documents of a law enforcement agency establish probable cause for Aiyuk’s arrest. The district attorney’s office declined to include those law enforcement materials when requested.

Aiyuk has apologized for the speeding video in a text post on his YouTube channel, though the original video remains public. His representation and the 49ers were contacted for comment and did not respond immediately.

The sequence of events lands at a moment when Aiyuk’s professional situation was already unstable. A first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Aiyuk produced 269 catches for 3. 931 yards and 25 touchdowns in his first four seasons with San Francisco. Before the start of the 2024 season, the 49ers signed him to a four-year, $120 million contract extension.

But that contract story took a sharp turn in the 2024 season. In October 2024, Aiyuk tore his ACL and MCL during a Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He missed the rest of the season and began 2025 on the PUP list.

Last November, the team voided all guarantees in Aiyuk’s contract for failing to communicate with the team during his rehab process. One month later, the 49ers placed Aiyuk on their reserve/left squad list. The speeding video was posted one week after that transaction.

On Jan. 21, 49ers general manager John Lynch said, “I think it’s safe to say [Aiyuk]’s played his last snap with the 49ers.”

Technically, Aiyuk remains under contract with the 49ers through the 2028 season after signing his four-year extension in 2024. However. San Francisco voided his guarantees for the 2026 season—$27 million. according to Over the Cap—after he failed to communicate with the team and did not show up to the 49ers’ facility during injury rehab.

The arrest-warrant development intensifies the uncertainty around where Aiyuk might land next. Trade rumors have followed since Lynch’s remarks. In a breakdown of potential landing spots, Marcus D. Smith pointed to four possibilities: the Raiders, the Browns, the Saints and the Dolphins.

Smith wrote that all four teams appear set to enter the 2026 season still needing help in their receiver room. even after free agency and the draft. He cited the Raiders lacking a true No. 1 wideout to complement tight end Brock Bowers; the Browns needing depth behind Jerry Jeudy; and the Saints needing depth behind Chris Olave. He also noted the Dolphins parted ways with both of their top wideouts—Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle—in the offseason.

Smith also wrote that other possible trade destinations include the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, New England Patriots and Washington Commanders.

Hours after the warrant news broke, Aiyuk posted a different video showing a car driving around a racetrack. It is unclear whether Aiyuk was behind the wheel. In the caption, he wrote, “Mad I took off got some (expletive) in they feelings!”

The tightening of legal pressure comes on top of a contract path already redirected by the 49ers—voided guarantees. roster status changes. and Lynch’s explicit suggestion that Aiyuk’s time in San Francisco is near its end. With the speeding video tied to a specific alleged incident date and a formal misdemeanor complaint. the next chapter is no longer just about football rumors. It is now about a court case, and what it could mean for Aiyuk’s immediate plans.
