There have been plenty of fights and skirmishes across NFL training camp and joint practices ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

The latest session to get chippy was a joint practice between the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins.

During the Aug. 20 practice – which comes two days ahead of the New York vs. Miami preseason game – Giants edge rusher Abdul Carter took a swing at Dolphins left tackle Patrick Paul.

It wasn’t immediately clear what precipitated Carter’s punch of Paul. However, the Palm Beach Post – part of the USA TODAY Network – noted there had been “a verbal battle” between Carter and Paul during the practice.

“The linemen from both teams came together, but it was just a lot of trash talking,” Joe Schad and Hal Habib wrote of what happened after the confrontation.

Carter was permitted to continue practicing despite the punch. Both he, Paul and each of their team’s coaches – Jeff Hafley and John Harbaugh – can be expected to be asked about it after the practice concludes.
