May 13, 2026 $92 million road works to resume on Oakland Crescent ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Road work will resume on Oakland Crescent and Oakland Road in St Andrew on Thursday under the Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) programme, following a suspension earlier this year.. In a statement on Wednesday, Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, said that the $92 million project
had encountered some technical issues, which have now been resolved.. The project scope includes the installation of sidewalks and the laying of waterlines.. Shaw explained that the contractors, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Limited, encountered challenges obtaining the necessary fittings for the pipe installation works.. This impacted the work schedule.. He said a decision was made to have the sidewalks, v-drains as well as the kerbs and channel done, while efforts were underway to resolve
the issue with the pipe fittings.. Shaw noted that the situation has now been resolved, paving the way for the contractor to move swiftly to have the work completed.. Both Oakland Road and Oakland Crescent will benefit from the installation of new waterlines, a new base and an asphaltic concrete surface.. Drainage features are also to be further improved.. Some $52 million is being spent on Oakland Road, while $40 million is being spent to
improve Oakland Crescent.. The works are being done simultaneously under the supervision of NO Whyte and Associates Limited..
