19,000 acres burned in Miami-Dade County, third fire breaks out

Three wildfires burning in Miami-Dade County have consumed more than 19,000 acres, with the Quarry 2 Fire reaching 19,018 acres and 97% containment as of June 21. Authorities say crews continue suppression work, roads reopened after weekend closures, and resid
For a third straight stretch of days, firefighting crews have been pushed to work the same patch of South Florida conditions—only now the pressure is shared across three separate wildfires in Miami-Dade County.
Cumulatively, the blazes have consumed over 19,000 acres, according to a map of active wildfires provided by the Florida Forest Service. The largest, the Quarry 2 Fire, began on June 15 near NW 137 Ave. and NW 41 St. By June 21 at 1:26 p.m., it had grown to 19,018 acres and was 97% contained.
A second fire, the Well Fire, started on June 16 near NW 122 Ave. and NW 58 St. As of June 21 at 12:32 p.m., it had burned 2,749 acres and was 85% contained.
The third blaze, the Corrections Fire, is located south of 8th St and west of Krome Avenue. As of June 21 at 1:39 p.m., it had burned 305 acres and was 15% contained.
The weekend closures were the clearest sign of how quickly these fires can disrupt daily routines. Lanes along Krome Avenue, the Turnpike and Tamiami Trail were closed over the weekend, but they have all since reopened.
Crews from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) and the Florida Forest Service have been involved in suppression efforts. A social media post from MDFR said “additional aerial resources” from Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service “assisted with water drop operations.”
Even as roads reopen, the smoke is where the risk can move into everyday life. Nearby communities could be affected by clouds of smoke from the fires, MDFR said. If smoke is present. the organization recommends limiting time outside. keeping all entrances to the home sealed. and setting air conditioning systems to recirculate indoor air if residents have that feature.
“These precautions are especially important for individuals with respiratory conditions,” reads MDFR’s post.
MDFR also warned that smoke can make driving more dangerous by reducing visibility. For motorists who absolutely have to drive through “smoke or haze,” the guidance is to exercise special caution, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights.
The numbers and locations underscore the same reality on the ground: one fire is close to containment, another is still burning more intensely, and a third—at only 15% contained as of June 21—adds fresh risk for residents and responders in the days ahead.
As crews continue suppression efforts, the immediate priorities for the public remain clear—prepare for lingering smoke conditions, protect indoor air, and adjust driving habits when visibility changes.

19,000 acres?? That sounds like a whole city worth of fire, wow.
So they reopened roads but the smoke is still the problem… love that for us. Do people just keep driving with their windows open though? Like common sense but I guess not.
I think this is all because of that one power line fire last year, they never really fix anything down here. Also 97% contained means it’s basically out right? but then it says smoke could move into everyday life so which one is it lol.
Quarry 2, Well, Corrections… why are the names like that, is it near a prison or something? 15% contained on the third one and they say keep entrances sealed and recirculate air, okay but not everybody has AC that actually works. Hope those aerial water drops don’t run out again or whatever.
