Zdeno Chara leaves skates on the ice after star-studded ‘Zee’s Final Shift’ event

Boston Bruins
Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand skated alongside Chara one last time Friday.
Zdeno Chara left everything on the ice after his farewell event in Slovakia Friday. Even his skates.
After a long NHL career where he served as captain of the Boston Bruins and won the Stanley Cup in 2011, Chara officially retired from professional hockey in 2022. But he took the ice one final time in his home country, alongside some familiar faces from his past.
“Zee’s Final Shift” served to honor Chara’s legendary career, and featured appearances from the likes of Ray Bourque, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, and more.
At the farewell event, Chara recreated his record-breaking 108.8 MPH slapshot from the 2008 All-Star Game, and when all the festivities were finished, he took off his skates and left them in the center of the ice.

Team Boston scored 13 goals in the exhibition to close the day. Bergeron and Milan Lucic scored three each, and Pastrnak scored twice. Chara and his sons each scored once, as did Daniel Paille and Michael Ryder.
The full lineup for Friday’s event is available here.
The final chapter of Chara’s playing career is now officially over, but he continues to help the Bruins in his post-playing career. Chara is serving as an operations advisor for the team now. So there is plenty more of Chara left in Boston.
