The Zambian government has introduced the National Education Policy 2025 and new assessment tools to modernize the country’s academic framework.
By Alice Lubasi Government has launched the National Education Policy 2025 and Competence-Based Assessment tools, designed to guide reforms that respond to the rapidly changing education landscape.. Speaking during the launch, Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA said the documents demonstrate Government’s commitment to advancing education in a coordinated and forward-looking manner.. Mr.. SYAKALIMA noted that the policy represents the first comprehensive review of Zambia’s education framework in nearly three decades, replacing the 1996 policy.. He explained
that the assessment tools, grounded in the 2023 curriculum framework, are designed to build critical thinking, digital literacy and practical skills relevant to the real world.. “The national education policy introduces key reforms aimed at positioning Zambia as a regional centre of educational excellence,” Mr.. SYAKALIMA said.. He added that the Ministry has secured over 500 million Kwacha to support all districts under the school feeding programme.. Meanwhile, Education Permanent Secretary for Administration NORIANA MUNEKU
said the assessment schemes and school-based assessment guidelines will provide direction for the Primary School Certificate and the Certificate of Secondary Education Ordinary Level examinations.. Ms.. MUNEKU explained that the documents, developed by the Examinations Council of Zambia -ECZ, will support the effective implementation of the competence-based curriculum across schools.. ECZ Executive Director MICHAEL CHILALA added that the documents are intended to prepare learners and institutions to meet the demands of rapidly evolving technological advancements.
