Your Thursday, July 30 Guide: Five things to do in the Oil City

CASPER, Wyo. — Thursday is here once again, which means Friday is only a day away. Tomorrow, tomorrow, you’ll love it tomorrow. But you can love today too, because there’s a ton going on all throughout town. From Paddle on the Pond at Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park to a comedy show benefitting Captain Brian Dixon, this is what’s happening Thursday in the Oil City.

The Science Zone is hosting a litany of camps for kiddos of all ages this summer, beginning on Thursday at 9 a.m. This week’s theme is “Build it. Code it. Control it.”

“In this hand-on robotics camp, campers will design and program robots, learning engineering, circuitry, and computer science through exciting challenges and teamwork,” the event page states. “A must for future innovators!”

This week, the Natrona County Library is hosting famed magician Byron Grey as he presents his show “The Magic Bookcase.”

“Add some Magic to your week with Wyoming magician Byron Grey and his magnificent Magic Bookcase,” the event page states. “Byron will be performing here multiple times a day from July 27 to July 30, so there’s plenty of opportunities to experience the magic of storytelling firsthand. In ‘The Magic Bookcase,’ Byron combines the ancient arts of storytelling, magic, and audience participation for an astonishing family-friendly magic show. ‘The Magic Bookcase’ recharges and re-enchants the wonder of reading and storytelling. Combining the arts of magic, traditional storytelling, and ‘handling humans’ (the gentle art of audience participation), ‘The Magic Bookcase’ is a 45 minute tour-de-force of family friendly entertainment.”

This week, The Nicolaysen Art Museum is hosting its Summer Camp. This week’s theme is “Little Davinci’s.”

“Step into the Art Lab! In collaboration with The Science Zone, this hands-on camp lets young artists get messy and have fun while exploring art and science together,” the event page states. “Campers will experiment, create, and discover while blending creativity and curiosity to spark imagination and inspire new ideas.”

Paddle on the Pond

On Thursday, Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park is hosting Paddle on the Pond from 2 to 4 p.m.

“The park will be providing kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, life jackets, and instruction on how to use them,” the event page states. “Come learn a new skill and enjoy an afternoon on the water! Be sure to bring sunscreen and plenty of water.”

Comedy for Captain Dixon: Rachel Feinstein Live

On Thursday, July 30, The Rialto Casper is hosting famed comedian Rachel Feinstein in a two-show affair, happening at 6:30 and 9 p.m. Proceeds from the show will go directly to the Brian Dixon Cancer Benefit.
