Wonder of the Seas lights up nights with vibrant glow
On a seven-day Caribbean cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas, nightfall turns the 1,188-foot ship into a colorful, neon-lit world—complete with glow-lit pools, illuminated neighborhoods, and late-evening deck strolls.
Night comes fast on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas. and with it. the ship’s look changes in a way that’s hard to ignore.. On a seven-day Caribbean cruise in 2021. walking the 1. 188-foot-long vessel after dark. the ship didn’t feel like a ship at all—it felt like a floating resort soaked in color.
The Wonder of the Seas is built for scale and variety. with 18 decks. eight “neighborhoods. ” 21 restaurants. and plenty of bars and activities.. But at night. the real transformation is about the lighting—distributed across outdoor decks and public spaces—turning ordinary routes into night walks framed by glowing pools. shifting colors. and neon atmosphere.
Some of the most noticeable changes appear on the ship’s outdoor decks, which are open to all guests after sunset. These four outdoor decks become the stage for the cruise’s nighttime glow, with lights built into the experience rather than sitting off to the side.
On the pool decks—Decks 15 and 16—lights shine beneath the water, and the color continues above.. “The rainbow glow over everything made the decks feel magical. ” the traveler wrote. describing how the lights shift across the space.. The pools also follow a set daily rhythm: all pools close by 11 p.m.. according to Cruise Compass. the daily schedule provided on Royal Caribbean cruises.
Beyond the water, the “neighborhood” concept stretches into lighting design.. From upper decks. guests can look down toward the Central Park inner neighborhood on deck eight. which is visible both day and night.. In the outdoor areas filled with plants. the deck lighting shifts to a yellow glow after dark. creating what the traveler compared to a home-holiday atmosphere.
Down on deck six, the Boardwalk is another nighttime highlight.. The Boardwalk includes an outdoor deck with a carousel. and at night the space becomes brighter and more colorful—“reminiscent of a carnival. ” according to the cruise notes.. Nearby. Sugar Beach. a candy store across from the carousel. has daytime lighting in front that stays on during the day and is still part of the nighttime scene.. After dark, extra lights come on above the area, making it even more vivid.
Food and entertainment spaces get their own glow too. On the Boardwalk, Johnny Rockets carries neon lighting that the traveler said enhances its classic diner feel. And at the back of deck six, the Aquatheater glows neon at night, with screens showing pictures of stars.
If you’re looking for the place where the night payoff is most concentrated. the traveler’s best suggestion was deck 16.. They described it as the top spot for sunset views—followed by glowing pools—and added that exploring the mostly-empty. lit-up decks after hours was one of the trip’s favorite moments.
Even with the nighttime freedom, the ship still keeps schedules in place for guests.. Kids have a 1 a.m.. curfew, and the pool closing time at 11 p.m.. helps keep the deck atmosphere in check.. On Wonder of the Seas. the lighting may turn the ship into a colorful oasis after dark. but the schedule keeps the night from slipping out of control.
