Wings erase 14-point gap to edge Sky 93-92

Wings rally – After trailing by 14, Dallas scored a season-high 36 points in the fourth quarter, then survived a late Chicago push. Li Yueru hit two free throws with 12.5 seconds left to give the Wings their first lead and a 93-92 win over the Sky on Saturday night in Arlin

ARLINGTON, Texas — Dallas watched Chicago build a 28-16 lead after one quarter, then suffer a slow collapse that started with effort and ended at the free-throw line.

Li Yueru made two free throws with 12.5 seconds left to give Dallas its first lead as the Wings rallied past the Chicago Sky 93-92 on Saturday night. The comeback didn’t come quietly. Dallas scored a season high 36 points in the fourth quarter, erasing a 14-point deficit.

Jessica Shepard did much of the heavy lifting in the second half. She scored 17 of her 21 points after halftime, adding eight rebounds. Paige Bueckers scored 19 points, including 10 of 11 during one stretch of the rally. She also finished with eight assists and seven rebounds. Rookie Azzi Fudd added 13 points. and Arike Ogunbowale scored 12 as Dallas (10-6) matched its win total from last season and extended a home run with its sixth straight home game.

Chicago’s Kamilla Cardoso carried the scoring burden with 26 points—one short of her career high—and nine rebounds. The Sky, now 4-11, had lost five in a row before this one. Sydney Taylor, a rookie, scored 18 points before fouling out. Skylar Diggins scored 14, and Natasha Cloud added 10.

The gap between the teams’ late-game turns tells the story. Chicago outscored Dallas 20-0 in the paint in the first quarter, taking control early with a 28-16 lead. Dallas chipped away and trailed 43-38 at halftime, but Chicago still surged in the third. The Sky dominated that stretch and led 71-57 before eventually losing for the 10th time in 11 games.

After the fourth-quarter surge, Dallas held on long enough for Yueru’s free throws to land and the final margin to hold.

Chicago plays next at Connecticut Sun on Monday. Dallas next travels to face the Seattle Storm on Monday.

  1. I only saw the score jump on my feed and thought Dallas already had it. But then it says Chicago had a 28-16 lead?? That’s like the exact opposite of what I assumed lol.

  2. Paige Bueckers 10 of 11 during one stretch sounds like she was basically carrying the whole comeback. Also free throws at 12.5 seconds left always decide everything, so if Chicago didn’t foul then they woulda won right?

  3. Not gonna lie, I’m confused why they keep talking about “paint” like that’s a thing in basketball but okay. If Chicago led 20-0 in the paint early, Dallas must’ve just stopped playing defense or something, then magically fixed it at the end??
