Alcohol bans as France counts wildfires risks

France’s record-breaking heatwave has increased the chances of wildfires, with dozens of départements at high risk. As France prepares for its second weekend of scorching temperatures, local authorities across the country are banning the sale of alcohol while festivals, events and sports fixtures have been cancelled. Although temperatures are predicted to finally start to fall over the weekend, much of France will still be facing extremely high temperatures, with 50 départements remaining on red alert. Some 40 départements are at “moderate risk” on Saturday, 43
