How much rain has fallen in NYC this August?
As of Aug. 24, 8.04 inches of rain has fallen at New York City’s Central Park, according to the National Weather Service.
That’s the most amount of August rain NYC has gotten since 2021, when 10.32 inches of rain fell in total that month.
The average for August is around 5 inches, the NWS says. The rainiest August since 2000 was in 2011, when 18.95 inches fell.
Why is so much rain falling in NYC?
A tropical airmass, low-pressure systems, summer heat and plenty of moisture in the atmosphere have seemingly led to the high rainfall amounts over the past month.
