Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler differ on LIV returns
Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler offered very different answers when asked if returning LIV golfers would add value to the PGA Tour.

The six automatic qualifiers for the United States at the 2026 Presidents Cup are set.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will once again lead the Americans into the four-day, match-play event pitting the best golfers from the United States against the best golfers from around the world, excluding those eligible to play in the Ryder Cup, every two years.
Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa have also locked up spots on the 12-member United States team by virtue of their spot in the Presidents Cup standings and FedEx Cup points earned from Jan. 1, 2025, through the conclusion of the 2026 BMW Championship on Aug. 23.
Team captain Brandt Snedeker will make six additional captain’s picks for the U.S. team. He is expected to announce those decisions following this week’s Tour Championship.
Scheffler and Young had already clinched spots as automatic qualifiers before the start of the BMW Championship. Clark, meanwhile, jumped from seventh place to third place in the points standings by winning the BMW Championship. Morikawa held off Chris Gotterup for the final automatic qualifier spot after both finished in a tie for fourth place at the BMW Championship.
Ben Griffin fell three spots – from fifth to eighth place – after this week and missed out on an automatic qualifier spot.
The international team’s six automatic qualifiers will be determined by the Official World Golf Ranking after the Tour Championship. International team captain Geoff Ogilvy also gets six captain’s picks.
When is the 2026 Presidents Cup?
The 2026 Presidents Cup is scheduled to take place at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago beginning on Thursday, Sept. 24 and end with the final day of competition slated for Sunday, Sept. 27.
