Trump’s secret departure from Turkey not the first in history
USA TODAY’s Susan Page recalls the time Clinton secretly switched planes before a Pakistan visit in 2000, revealing a security tactic echoed in later presidential travel, like President Trump’s decoy flight from Turkey.
Bill Clinton is the newest member of an increasingly exclusive club.
The former president turned 80 on Aug. 19, joining Joe Biden, Donald Trump and George W. Bush as living U.S. presidents who have reached the milestone. That leaves Barack Obama, who turned 65 earlier this month, as the only living current or former president under 80.
Clinton’s birthday underscores just how old the nation’s living presidents have become. Biden is set to turn 84 in November, while Trump and Bush both celebrated their 80th birthdays this year. Clinton, who served from 1993 to 2001, has remained active in public life, appearing this year at the Obama Presidential Center opening and at an event honoring former Rep. Barney Frank.
According to People Magazine, Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, make trips from time to time from their home in Chappaqua, New York, to New York City to spend time with their daughter Chelsea and three grandchildren.
