Texas favorite Whataburger is celebrating its 76th birthday with free food and special deals throughout August.

National Whataburger Day falls on Aug. 8, marking 76 years since Harmon Dobson opened the very first Whataburger in Corpus Christi in 1950. To celebrate, the burger chain is offering customers deals on National Whataburger Day, along with additional specials every Wednesday throughout August.

Whataburger got its start as a small burger stand on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi. A black-and-white photo of the original location offers a glimpse into the chain’s early days, when Whataburgers cost just 35 cents and milkshakes sold for 15 cents.

“Birthdays are meant to be shared, and that’s exactly what we’re doing all month long,” Whataburger President and CEO Debbie Stroud said in a news release. “Whether you’ve been ordering the same Whataburger for years or you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to try something new, we’re celebrating the Guests who’ve made the last 76 years so special. Consider these weekly surprises our way of saying thank you.”
